Manassas Park Candidate Forum

By Greg L | 20 October 2010 | Manassas Park | 25 Comments

Wondering what the heck is going on with the elections for the Governing Board in Manassas Park?  Well, if you happen to be free on a Friday morning and can get yourself over to Manassas Park High School, you can witness what seems to be the only candidate forum where apparently most of the candidates for office will be present.  Seriously folks, this is about as comprehensive as voter education gets in Manassas Park!

From Preston Banks, one of the candidates for the Governing Board:

Manassas Park High School is hosting a forum for candidates in the upcoming election. The forum will take place in the Auditorium at Manassas Park Middle School on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 9:30am. The target audience will be MPHS senior class whom will be voting for the first time. Michael Peters, Activities Director will moderate the forum.  All of the candidates with exception to one will be attending.

High School Seniors and Land Use Policy, Municipal Financial Management and the Dillon Rule.  I hope they’re offering extra credit here, that is if the discussion unexpectedly veers away from those all-important “boxer shorts or briefs” kinds of questions.

    Dear Preston Banks,

The city is in a tail spin with no recovery. Are you willing to propose the firing the P&R director when you are elected. Are you willing to turn the fire and the police service over to the county to save MP money. Are you willing to cut MP employee staff by half to save MP. Are you willing to challenge any budget with knowledge to save MP. Are you willing to stake you political career on the above, if you can’t get it done.

    Thank you,

    MPCINSIDER

BTW I will be watching you if you get elected!!!!!!!

Wow, mpcinsider, this is an illiterate response. I am glad the schools appear to be doing a much better job with education these days. Please proofread and learn punctuation if you wish your concerns to be taken seriously.

I was not able to attend, but heard that Banks and Schubert were the most articulate and composed. I hope new leaders will emerge to shake up the business as usual crowd.

mpcinsider - I think our schools have changed greatly since you came through MPCS. Let’s not throw our kids under the bus just because you received a lousy education long ago.

Thank you MP parent! I have two children who graduated from MP and one was just hired as a Correctional Officer for the PWADC and the other is a wondeful mother of two beautiful children. mpcinsider, you should think a little before you hit submit because you usually are on spot with your comments. By the way, I met Schubert and we had a nice discussion and he acknowledged the mismanagement of the rec center and that changes needed to be made. I for one will be voting for him.

MP Parent - I was joking with MP fan. I found the MP schools are doing very well, and I wish that city council would stop cutting the school’s budget. There are many fine teachers and staff members that are willing to go the extra mile for the kids. Sorry for slamming MP schools.

Hey Greg what do you think of this?

It seems someone may be worried about what truth is being leaked out.

I was on Google map and I see they updated MP and you can see the shadowing at the Rec center. The shadowing is just past mid day and the pool deck is almost completely covered. How can that be? I thought a pool deck was a place to get sun. I also moved over to the famous city center and notice hardly any cars there, and I wondered why? Then I remember that the city center is still sitting empty. How pathetic is that! I wonder how long that part of town will have no businesses! I mean the traffic pattern does not conform to a banks request for business and the residents that live above the location are certainly happy since they have choice parking spots.

BTW “Pathetic of MP” if you think that having a conference this Saturday will change business people’s minds about MP you are totally wrong. I will make sure that the business people understand the subpar respect the west side of MP has been given by the city council and suggest they move to either PWC or MC.

mpcinsider–so now when MP tries to do something you say you’ll sabotage their efforts? This is not helpful. Please move or resign your job, keep your dignity, and let those who want to be constructive do their best!

MP fan I am not sabotaging I am given insight in what is going on within the MP boundaries. If you have not notice the west side of town has been ignored by the city council for many years. They turn their back on the part of the town that got them a city. Now I am exposing what the city council is really about.

BTW if you want to go toe to toe with me that is fine. But don’t be a Town crier for “Pathetic of MP” or the city council.

The school budget continues to get cut. I heard that the school was able to build a savings of nearly $2 million in unspent revenues from prior years. The city in turn spent money that was intended for the school system in other areas. That is why MPCS had to cut many jobs for this upcoming school year. Does anyone know anything about this?

Well if something dramatic changes the current council members are going to be voted back in. Word on the street is that people have a dislike towards Brian Leeper and Preston Banks. So we are going to be stuck with same old council member who are going to raise taxes next year on their residents.

There is almost a 100% chance that one of the following happens:

    Leeper wins

    Preston wins

    Leeper and Preston both win

“Like a poor marksman you keep missing the target.”

MPCinsider, You nitpick about vacations, nepotism, and layoffs ad-nausium.

You are either a drama hen pecking away at your keyboard for self importance (when your not aggressively driving your SUV)… OR, you are a company shill posting here to keep the little people pre-occupied with red herring. You might even be Frank Jones himself or Treuting. Jones always was his lil bitch.

OK Caped Crusader, Here’s your chance to prove what your made of.

I’ll make it easy for you, let’s start with something small.

    EXPLAIN THIS:

    rec center cost $22,000,000
    rec center sq.ft. $80,000
    rec center cost/sq.ft $275

    With me so far?

Average Washington DC cost/sqft for a rec center $200

    275
    - 200
    ——-
    75
    x80,000
    ———
    6,000,000

WHERE DID THE SIX MILLION DOLLARS GO?

(fun hint 1: Google “no bid contract”)
(fun hint 2: Look for the pattern in other contracts)

Do something that actually exposes corruption where you work.

Prove me wrong about you or shut up.

Similar comparisons were done on that elementary school and the the per sq. ft. cost on that is way out of line with what it should have cost.

    Fun hint 3:

Embezzling kickbacks from these construction projects would require the cooperation of certain high level managers. They would expect an extra little “taste” of the action to keep quiet. Especially if they are abandoning ship. Can you think of anyone fitting that description?

OR you can just run with this…

Hot Henhouse Insider shocker!! I just heard the treasurer took an extra 15 minutes for lunch on Friday! GET “EM!!!

Here’s even more on it. I wonder what would happen if every construction project undertaken during the Treuting/Jones administrations was audited?
