Nightmare Amnesty Vote On Saturday

By Greg L | 17 December 2010 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens | 19 Comments

Senator Reid filed cloture Thursday evening on the House version of the DREAM Act (H.R.5281) and immediately announced that he would bring the bill up for a vote Saturday — most likely Saturday morning. If the Senate passes the DREAM Act, it will go straight to the President’s desk and become law.  That would be a huge mistake.

This legislation discriminates against legal immigrants, providing illegal aliens with access to in-state tuition rates that legal immigrants don’t qualify for and gives illegal aliens a green card after two years of military service while legal immigrants have to wait three years. It allows about two million illegal aliens to get no-questions-asked “temporary” legal status pending the resolution of their applications for ten years, regardless of whether that application is legitimate or not, and applicants can’t be deported. The requirements for a clean criminal record are even less stringent than the requirements legal immigrants must adhere to. It is the typical product of a bill rammed through without any opportunity for committee review or floor amendments — full of troubling problems that seriously call in to question whether this bill is anything but an eleventh-hour effort by those who have been voted out of office to kick Americans in the face one more time on their way out.

Proponents of this ill-advised legislation are counting on Senators Warner and Webb to vote in favor.  Over the next day or so we really need to make it clear to our Senate representatives that amnesty for illegal aliens (and anyone they sponsor for legal residency after they reach age 21) during a down economy only hurts legal workers, encourages further illegal immigration, harms state and local government budgets, and undermines the rule of law.  If this bill was a good idea, the discussion wouldn’t have waited until a Saturday when this lame duck Congress should have already adjourned.

Call Jim Webb’s office at (202) 224-4024 and make sure he knows you don’t want this to pass.  Senator Warner is leaning in the affirmative on this atrocity, but it doesn’t hurt to contact him through the capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

This lame duck session has demonstrated why, in the future, we should immediately seat the Representatives as soon as the election is decided.

Our Democrats, having lost seventy seats, clearly have no mandate from the citizens; least of all for such unpopular crap as the Dream and DADT repeal bills.

If the national level Democrats continue to push this garbage, then they will be causing severe damage to our 2011 Democratic candidates, especially here in Virginia.

One way that the DADT repeal could be packaged by the Republicans next session, would be to require our military to drop all race and gender based recruiting and promotion quotas (they are un-constituional, but the Pentagon does it anyway), and replace that flawed system with a requirement that all recruiting and promotion be based solely on MERIT.

Virginia newspaper refers to illegal aliens as “illegal visitors”
On Tuesday, an article appeared in the online version of The Virginian-Pilot (Pilotonline.com) which described a round-up by federal agents of 20 illegal aliens in the Hampton Roads area. All of them had criminal records in this country, and many have been previously deported.

Now for the interesting part of this story…

The reporter, Tim McGlone, wrote the following headline to tell this story: “Feds arrest 20 illegal visitors in sweep.”

He actually referred to illegal aliens, all of whom had prior criminal convictions, as “visitors.”

The article elicited dozens of angry comments and by Wednesday, the headline had been re-written and the term “illegal visitors” was replaced with “illegal immigrants.”

According to his bio, McGlone is a crime reporter with 20 years experience in the newspaper business. As such, it hardly seems possible that his unique way of describing illegal aliens was simply a mistake.

Of course, like most newspapers throughout the country, The Virginian-Pilot leans hard to the left and that political stance is often evident in their reporting.

How many times have we seen an illegal alien described as an “undocumented worker” or “migrant?”

The Associated Press stylebook recommends the term “illegal immigrant” be used when describing someone in the country illegally.

However, the American press does not like that term and the image it conveys…so they use terms such as “undocumented” and now the laughable moniker of “visitor.”

One wonders how McGlone would describe a bank robbery. Perhaps, with the following headline: “Bank visitor makes undocumented withdrawal.”

I’ve posted two articles on my blog, one how parts of California have been turned into more like a 3rd World Country, rather than America. And, yet, we still have our elected elites saying how we should get on our knees and kiss the feet of illegals for saving us.

ALIPAC is rallying talk radio show listeners and American citizens to call the US Senate to oppose the Dream Act Amnesty today. The bill contains a waiver that would allow the Secretary of Homeland Security and President Obama to grant Amnesty to most illegal immigrants in America.

“The Dream Act Amnesty is a Nightmare already and would displace several million innocent American students, workers, and voters,” said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. “But now we find a waiver on page 5, line 21 of HR 5281 that allows Obama to grant Amnesty for most of the 12-20 million illegal aliens in America!”

Close inspection of HR 5281, which passed the house last week by a narrow margin, finds a blanket waiver provision on page 5 line 21 Sec. 6 (a)(2). Immediately following all of the promises in the bill that only illegal aliens that claim they are under 30, claim they have been in the US 5 years, and claim they were brought here by others when they were under 16, and claim they are going to college or into the military, the waiver allows all of these considerations to be dropped.

“(2) WAIVER.—With respect to any benefit under this section and sections…the Secretary of Homeland Security may waive the… ground of inadmissibility …and the ground of deportability… for humanitarian purposes or family unity or when it is otherwise in the public interest.”

This provision will grant the Obama administration the power to declare full amnesty for the 12 to 20 million adult illegal immigrants in America!

“Most of America has been suckered into thinking this Dream Act Amnesty cloture vote will just be about a subsection of illegal aliens brought here as kids and that’s a lie,” said William Gheen. “Americans need to call the Senate today to oppose this bill because it gives the Obama administration the power to grant Amnesty to tens of millions of illegals who will in turn destroy the borders of the United States.”

    I APOLOGIZE CITIZENS OF VIRGINIA,

The phone alert I sent earlier had a horrendous error that said 2,000 to 4,000 illegal aliens would get immediate 10-year work permits.

The correct number is 2 MILLION to 4 MILLION.

    Big difference.

HERE IS THE PHONE ALERT AGAIN, BUT CORRECTED:

The PRO-amnesty forces absolutely are counting on Sen. Webb to support their DREAM Act amnesty tomorrow morning in the show-down vote.

In these final minutes this afternoon before Senate offices stop answering phones, I think you have a chance to switch Sen. Webb to a pro-American-worker, anti-amnesty vote tomorrow.

His staff is indicating to our callers that Sen. Webb regards DREAM as just a little amnesty. Remember that he has opposed the big CIR amnesties in the past.

When you phone, note that regardless of how many people eventually get a permanent amnesty, DREAM would result in 2 MILLION to 4 MILLION illegal aliens getting 10-year work permits immediately to compete against 22 million unemployed Americans.

We need every single one of you getting this email to make a call to your Sen. Webb.

You will be most powerful by emphasizing in the first sentence on the phone where you live in Virginia — that you are a CONSTITUENT. Most of the PRO-amnesty phone calls have been coming from outside the state.

Because you live in the state, you have more power over the final outcome of the vote tomorrow than most of our members.

You know all kinds of reasons to state why your Senators should vote NO.

If you need another, try this:

The DREAM Act provides ZERO provisions for reducing illegal immigration in the future. Passing that kind of amnesty will only entice massive new lawbreaking and waves of illegal foreign workers competing against our 22 million unemployed Americans.

It could be that a final major push this last couple of hours from her constituents could help her make a rational decision.

THANKS FOR MAKING THESE FINAL, LAST-MINUTE PHONE CALLS.

YOU ARE AMONG THE VERY FEW WHO CAN DO THIS AS A CONSTITUENT.

THE POWER IS YOURS (but the time is very short),

if this passes, the next amnesty bill will be for their parents. Again, I’ll say again why most Central and South American Countries are in poor shape. The people know only that breaking the law is the way to get ahead. The illegals won’t just be happy with this, they will keep pushing, knowing our elected elites will bend over backwards for the illegals.

    The repeal of DADT:

This is NOT about, nor has it ever been about, homosexuals serving “openly” in the military. It’s simply another step in the homosexual agenda to have their lifestyle regarded by society as normal.

    Anon,

Very true. It’s a shame for sure. Just like having women serve on ships was not going to have an impact on the readiness of our troops.

We won on the DREAM act!!! Have to keep vigilent to make sure Harry Reid doesn’t try and tack it onto another bill. Just got to hold out until they adjourn the session then hopefully January 4th the first day of the new congress we can get to work securing our borders and making jobs a thing of the past for illegals. Chipolte in Minnesota cracked down and many got fired when ICE started looking at the I-9 forms there, the same can be done here at the fast food places. Let the young LEGAL citizens have these jobs so they can learn responsibility.

The end game is the deconstruction of the military and the U.S. of A.

The left is using the gay issue as a tool, just as they use the environment as a tool, race as a tool, gender as a tool, children as a tool, food as a tool …

Webb most likely is not going to run for reelection. So, what does he care? Warner will just continue to lie on the campaign trail about being a centrist and of course nobody in the liberal media will compare his campaign lies to his votes in Congress.
