The More Things Change…

By Greg L | 3 February 2011 | PWCDC, Prince William County | 18 Comments

When Ben Tribbett talks about the candidates Democrats have been ponying up in Prince William County as “Grandparents Gone Wild“, does anyone besides me get the impression that he’s referring to newly minted PWCDC Chairman Bruce Roemmelt or perhaps Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell?  It sure seems to fit.  So now Dems have a new neophyte candidate in former Republican donor and Pakistani-American Babur Lateef to try to break the Psycho Grandparent cycle by challenging Gary Friedman for the nomination.

Somehow I think someone who donated to Republican candidates just because they happened to share the same ethnic heritage is going to have a tough time in a Democrat primary, but with Democrats you never know what’s going to happen.  All you can be certain of is that it’s going to be mighty entertaining, maybe even with dancing and chants of Allahu Akhbar after a convention victory as we’ve seen before, as well as connections with some rather unusual groups that will make great blog fodder going forward.

Just saw the piece at NLS - I should have known there was a Faisal Gill connection! What a mess that era of PWC politics was!

The guy was recruited by Brian Moran because he’s about as far to the left as it gets over there. He initially wanted to run for the Senate but the dems want to put Paul Nichols up for that in a newly created district, so they convinced him he should run for Supervisor and pledged their support, throwing Gary Friedman under the bus. The establishment absolutely hates Friedman.

Lateef’s got a hefty campaign war chest that’s well into five figures but when you read the names of the donors you wonder whether his fundraising HQ is in Lahore, Pakistan.

inside baseball is 100% off base on his several assertions: Moran had nothing to do with Lateef running and Nichols has no interest in getting back in to the political fiight, don’t know anything about Lateef’s contributors.

“That said, I harkened back to when President Reagan could criticize specific policy and legislative proposals without sinking into the mud with name calling and personal attacks” and GregL seems unable to complete a sentence without heading for the gutter.

…and whose convictions and principles can be casually discarded when someone holding the exact opposite opinions is running for office who shares his same ethnic heritage. It makes me wonder whether this political philosophy of his (whether I agree with it or not) weighs more in his mind than the tribe the person he is talking to belongs to.

Yes, you heard it correctly. VMI is celebrating the Muslim invasion and occupation of Spain in 711 AD.

The myth of the tolerant “golden age” in Spain under Muslim rule – or, for that matter, anywhere else under Muslim rule – was never anything but a lie. The current revival of this lie is an effort to lull us into complacency about the current revival of Islamic expansionism. Even worse, one of the speakers at this travesty of an event is also a shill for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Absolutely nothing can stop the spread of Islam.”

    Don’t fear the Muslim Brotherhood:

… or it could be that he objected to the deficient character that he saw in the opposing candidates particularly ugly and misleading mud-slinging campaign. As I recall, the divorce lawyer sent out mailers suggesting that Gill’s job as an immigration attorney somehow made him an illegal alien sympathizer and potential terrorist.

There wasn’t much difference in the stated views or philosophies of the two, and you, Greg, even supported the Democratic candidate. In the next election cycle you took away that support, in part based on an assessment you made about his own character flaws.

If electing folks with high integrity is a strong tenet in your political philosophy then you fell shorter of the mark than a democrat that voted for a moderate republican in a race that was characterized by ugliness on the democrats side.

It is character flaws only if Greg doesn’t support them.

Es_looley, your comment was simply stupid.

I don’t trust any doctor who is a Democrat in politics because that just shows they do not understand the business side of their own industry.

Did you hear the news today? Hispanic population growth between 2000 and 2010 accounted for 43% of overall PWC growth during that period. And many of us can and do vote! We will listen to Mr. Lateef and see if he is for bringing tolerance back to this county!
