The Response From The Left

By Greg L | 14 February 2011 | Illegal Aliens, Crime, Manassas City, Prince William County | 30 Comments

With the massacre by an illegal alien of three residents of the City of Manassas and wounding of three others one might think that the left, which is always so eager to assure us that illegal aliens aren’t responsible for much crime, might have something to say about what happened this past week.  They’ve had so much to tell us about how illegal aliens aren’t a problem, so they must have some pearls of wisdom to scatter before us on this one.  So after a diligent search of the left-wing blogosphere, here is the sum total of their commentary on this incident, and all of the policy alternatives they’ve offered towards addressing illegal alien crime such as what we’ve just suffered:

Nada.  Zip.  Nothing.

My, the leftist open borders crowd sure is eager to cast anyone concerned about crime by illegal aliens as being motivated by nothing but racism.  They pounce on any opportunity they think might characterize anyone concerned about this issue as a discomfiting band of neanderthal throwbacks.  But when events conclusively demonstrate that illegal aliens are in fact a public safety problem, where is the open borders left?  Where are their “solutions?”  Nowhere to be found.

When facts don’t fit liberal pre-conceived notions, the consistent response by them is to pretend it didn’t happen.  The last triple murder in Prince William County and the independent jurisdictions within it was committed by an illegal alien in 2007.  The left ignored it.  The latest triple homicide in the area was committed by an illegal alien as well.  Again, the left ignored it.  Illegal aliens are responsible for a shocking proportion of the most violent crimes committed in the area, but all the left does is claim illegal aliens somehow aren’t a public safety issue.  Their response to the evidence is to ignore it.  Always.

On a highly related note, can anyone recall the last time a legal immigrant committed a murder in Prince William County, Manassas or Manassas Park?  Anyone?  While the left is so interested in conflating illegal aliens with legal immigrants when it comes to crime rates, you’d think an incident like this might encourage them to make the factual point that legal immigrants are not the problem and it’s the illegal aliens who disproportionately seem to be bent on rape, murder and pillage.  That would be a refreshing change on their part, but it appears they haven’t the moral courage to admit it.  It would contradict their mantra, which has assumed near-religious conviction on their parts.

Yeah, I know that doesn’t surprise you.  Liberalism after all is a mental disorder.

This fellow was caught publicly intoxicated before the murders, but as usual no enforcement resulted, even though he was illegally present in the country. And the result, once again, is disaster. Worse yet, he had long ago been ordered deported!

Some say “Oh, but you would be throwing him out of the country just because he was drunk in public!” Not exactly - he would be thrown out of the country because he was discovered to have been here despite being ordered deported in 2002 and then given a reprieve until 2006, and then simply remaining. This idea of an honor system of deportation really doesn’t make sense, and the result in this case is what we see.

Of course, this fellow has not been tried and convicted of these murders - so the last refuge of anti-enforcement argument will be that hey, he is innocent until proven guilty. Perhaps so - but no judge is likely to release this fellow on his own recognizance at this point. So now we get to pay for his incarceration to the tune of - what? $27,000 a year?

The problem is that our government is deliberately and pointedly looking the other way as hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens pour across the border into the USA every year. Obviously some of this number are serious criminals and will commit murders and otherwise cause injuries and deaths - we see it all the time! And recently we learned that for the past year or so, a large number of these illegal aliens have been coming all the way from India! And they are all unchecked, unvetted, who knows what sort of persons they are. Nobody checks.

Do we know how many might be coming from, say, Afghanistan, in the form of Al-Qaeda? No, we do not. Does that mean that there are none? No, it does not. How many years has it been since 9/11? Almost ten. Why is this still allowed to happen? Because supposedly respectable national organizations representing cheapo contractors want cheap illegal quasi-slave labor, and because corrupt political interests want votes, and because many people are too starry eyed and idealistic to see the sad and obvious truth!

For the sake of profit, political power, and pipedreams, they are leaving the door open to the unthinkable. And people are supposed to think that this is wonderful and multicultural, when what it really is, is unbelievably stupid.

People need to wake up. Our leaders will not act in our interest in this matter. We need to MAKE them do what is right. If we do not, they will simply sell us out. And they have been selling us out for generations! It’s time to stop them from doing that.

Corey Stewart is calling on Congress to make ICE report their non-performance. And we need more than a report that ICE isn’t doing much - we already know that! We need our residency and employment and immigration laws enforced. I suspect that most Congressfolk will look the other way and whistle a happy tune, even some of the ones you thought were on your side. Make note of the ones who do that, and vote them out of every office at the very next opportunity, regardless of party. And do not nominate or elect such ones ever again. Only nominate and elect leaders who actually CARE about the USA, and who will put a stop to this nonsense, as well as the spending nonsense and social nonsense that is destroying the nation. The very survival of the USA is at stake.

His trial costs will also cost us at least a
half million dollars. The left complains about the money spent going after these folks I say how much is a person life worth?

By constantly not enforcing immigration laws our government has given illegal aliens a license to kill

    Regulation of Immigration
    Historically a State Function
    By Joseph Baldacchino

The STATE has the RIGHT to PROTECT ITS CITIZENS from all enemies foreign and domestic. It is time for the STATE to stand up to Uncle SAM and do what is required by law.

Immigration control was a state issue for a hundred years. It was meant to be so that NY or MA or PA could not send the people they didnt want (the sick, the poor, the crimminal) to another state. We control whom migrates to our country for the safety of our people, they are suppose to be able prove they are healthy, have a job or profession or means of being self sufficient, and not have a criminal record. When they come across the borders by the thousands, we have no control over any of these matters.

How easy it would be for our police to collect such info when a suspect has been charged and legal status known.

As far as Virginia is concerned, here is the root of the problem, folks. Go to http://www.yesvirginia.org/pdf/guides/EstablishingBusiness10-11.pdf, scroll down to pg. 21, read this under the heading, “Employment of Aliens:”

    Employment of Aliens
The federal Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986
preempts state law governing the employment of illegal
aliens. The Department of Labor and Industry NO LONGER ENFORCES laws pertaining to the hiring of an alien who cannot
provide documents indicating that he or she is legally eligible
for employment in the United States.
Information regarding the employment of aliens may be
obtained from a Virginia office of the U.S. Immigration and
    Naturalization Service.

This policy is patently illegal. Virginia law 40.1-11.1 specifically prohibits hiring illegal aliens. Doing so is a state misdemeanor. Federal law prohibits states from “imposing civil or criminal sanctions (other than through licensing and similar laws)” for hiring, recruiting, or referring illegal aliens. ONLY criminal and civil sanctions are prohibited by federal law, not revocation of licenses. So what our Commonwealth COULD be doing, but doesn’t, is investigating complaints of hiring illegal aliens and, if founded, issuing citations for doing so, and notifying any professional licensing board of the employer about the infraction. Licensing Boards could, in their discretion, consider the violation of both state and federal laws professional misconduct, and revoke licenses.

I recommend calling or emailing the Governor’s office and telling him to get his Commissioner of Labor and Industry (Mr. Courtney Malveaux) off of his butt and into the act of enforcing a duly enacted, constitutional state statute. Contact information for the Guv is at http://www.governor.virginia.gov/contact.cfm.

Jobs are the magnet that attracts the illegal invaders. Enforcement of a state law by revoking professional licenses of contractors who hire the illegal invaders will go a long way toward demagnifying that attraction.

Once again the anti American forces want to take the illegal issue off the table, ignore the cause and mollycoddle the perpetrator.

It would seem that any time the relationship between two parties can be linked by blood or romance they want to label it a domestic issue. This is often seen as somehow less dangerous than an incident between strangers.

If this incident had not resulted in murder but an assault the individual would have been processed and released, gone to court, may get sent to counseling, often nolle pros, and not much action until the 3rd or 4th arrest. If the accused can show they have a drug or alcohol problem that gets them special services. Along with that they get another 3 or 4 chances to screw up before the courts get serious and give them 30 days, with 29 days suspended and credit time spent while under arrest against the remaining day.

While we often see this abusive waste of time and tax dollars in our judicial system dealing with homegrown misfits, there is absolutely no excuse for having to do it with those illegally entering our country.

What do VA restraining order statutes say about a person being restrained is an illegal alien?

    Do they notify ICE?

    If not, perhaps they should.

It’s pretty sad in reality. The excuse of one blog was they did not want to start a thread in respect to the community in mourning. Now, I can understand that to a point, but for people who love to go to the mountain top to defend illegals, that’s about as a flim flam excuse as I’ve seen. No question if a person shot three illegals in a fit of rage, those on that blog would not stop yapping about how the poor defenseless illegals are being singled out.

Days after an illegal immigrant was accused of a triple murder in Manassas, a frustrated and angry Del. Jackson Miller took to the House floor Monday to decry the growing problem of “illegal immigration criminals” in his Prince William County district.

“My city is in flames right now! What else am I supposed to do but stand up and scream about these atrocities?” Miller (R) said in a speech Monday. “My city is falling apart with huge problems in relation to illegal immigration and it is time for us to stop blaming the federal government.”

Police say Jose Oswaldo Reyes-Alfaro, 37, a Salvadoran national who was in the country illegally, fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and two other people and wounded three more Friday night in Manassas. The incident occurred a mile from Miller’s home.

Miller listed a number of illegal immigrants accused of crimes in Prince William, including Carlos A. Martinelly Montano, an illegal immigrant from Bolivia, accused of killing a Catholic nun in a drunk-driving accident.

The House gave final approval last week to a package of bills designed to crack down on illegal immigration, including a measure based on Prince William County’s policy that would require all state and local law enforcement officials to inquire about the immigration status of any person they arrest. Many of the measures are expected to die in the Democratic-controlled Senate in the final weeks of the legislative session.

“I would say if some of this legislation had passed in previous years perhaps some of these tragedies, these atrocities may have been avoided,” Miller said. “I’m sure I’m going to be accused of of using a tragedy for politics and I’m fanning the flames on the immigration debate….(but) there are things we can do to take this in our control.”

Robert while this is true, ease in accessing free social services, is also a big factor in a location being a magnet for illegal aliens. We have to keep in mind that it is just not businesses which are exploiting the illegal alien population, poltical parties and their community surrogates are just as involved, and they are using our tax dollars to do it.

BTW, COM I liked your thoughts this morning on your blog, and the new look.

This is what I do not get…the murderer of three people was the boyfriend of Ms. Ashcraft (for eight years according to reports). He was a tenant in her house, as well as her boyfriend. Yes, this is a tragedy for all of those killed and injured…however this is not some sort of random crime committed by an illegal. This is a domestic murder, abhorrent nonetheless, but has less to do with illegalism and more about the relations between the victim and her killer. Domestic murders are not unknown or rare in the US, and one does not have to be an illegal alien to committ murder against a partner.

The last triple homicide in the County was in 2007 in Woodbridge. It was committed by an illegal alien in a domestic incident. This triple homicide was committed by an illegal alien during not only a domestic incident, but included a premeditated murder at a different domicile after the domestic incident.

I’d say it’s not necessarily domestic incidents that are such a grave concern, but domestic incidents involving illegal aliens. They do seem to “solve” these issues in a way that is unique.

This also brings to mind the murder of a homeless man by an illegal alien after the illegal mistook the phrase “homo sapien” for the word “homosexual.” I haven’t seen many legal immigrants or citizens murder other people because they thought someone called them a homo.

Anything done from this point on is “too little, too late.”

    Really Amigo,

You need to get on board, it is not a domestic issue. You need to check the illegals/accused history. Had he been properly deported for past offenses, this would not have occured. These kind have no regard for laws and you know it.

Meanwhile over in Utah…From story..Meantime, a Latino activist delivered a letter to Salt Lake City’s Mexican Consulate urging Mexico’s president to suspend the visas of Mormon missionaries until the LDS Church takes a stronger position on immigration.

From the outset of the 2011 Legislature, lawmakers have said they will address the illegal immigration issue one way or another, although on Monday Senate Majority Leader Scott Jenkins did allow for the possibility of nothing happening.

“I’m not confident at all,” the Plain City Republican said.

But his colleague Sen. Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, had a different take.

“I think there’s no question we’re going to have something,” he said. “I think it’s remote that we won’t.”

While the Senate favors taking the best of several bills in what Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, calls a “Utah solution,” it is carefully watching individual pieces of legislation work through the process.

That has Mike Picardi, of United for Social Justice, so angry he couldn’t contain himself in a committee meeting Monday.

“These bills are all targeted to our Latino brothers and sisters. It’s time we called a spade a spade,” he said. “They’re trying to make this a totally white society with totally white workers.”

so the fact that it is a domestic violence murder makes it ok for you?

Here is a fact, harboring an illegal alien is a FEDERAL CRIME!

Furthermore, the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii) goes on to state, “Encouraging and Harboring Illegal Aliens - It is a violation of law for any person to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection in any place, including any building or means of transportation, any alien who is in the United States in violation of law. HARBORING MEANS ANY CONDUCT THAT TENDS TO SUBSTANTIALLY FACILITATE AN ALIEN TO REMAIN IN THE U.S. ILLEGALLY. The sheltering need not be clandestine, and harboring covers aliens arrested outdoors, as well as in a building. This provision includes harboring an alien who entered the U.S. legally but has since lost his legal status.

So by having this man live in their house for 8 years makes the entire family and any neighbor who know of his illegal status a Federal Criminal!

The Whole family should be arrested.

I’ve never seen that at Moonhowlings or anywhere else, LAI. I think you’re not reading carefully. If an Illegal Alien murders someone, or walks outside a crosswalk, he/she is subject to the same range of penalties that a citizen or legal resident is subject to for the same action. I’ve never heard anyone say otherwise.

@VA Magoo … when did I ever say that a domestic murder makes it okay with me? Didn’t I say that it was abhorrent? All murder is bad. What I pointed out was that the murder was not committed by a stranger, it was not a home invasion by random individuals, it was domestic. The murder was committed by a person who had a long personal (8 year) relationship with the deceased. You brought up the whole “harboring” thing. I didn’t even go there.

    The difference is this:

We cannot ahead of time keep a legal citizen from murdering someone.

We CAN ahead of time keep an illegal immigrant from killing someone — and that’s by deporting them.
