PWC Candidates: Start Your Engines!

By Greg L | 23 February 2011 | Prince William County | 19 Comments

Rumblings are resounding over at Virtucon regarding redistricting in Prince William County, and it’s apparent the rearrangement of deck chairs has begun in earnest, even if citizens don’t have much of a clue at all about what is happening right now.  As Marty Nohe struggles to find a way to remain within his district, and Wally Covington apparently searches for ways to draw potential opponents out of what is now the Brentsville District, the possibility of adding another million dollar a year line item to the budget for another magisterial district to be established seems to grow every day.

The answer here is relatively simple, though.  No matter how the lines are eventually drawn, we need potential candidates to start stepping up for supervisor and school board.  If you’ve ever thought about running for office, you need to start seriously exploring a candidacy right now.  Given that there are so many improvements that need to be made regardless of how the lines get laid down, chances are you’ll have an opportunity to do some good almost no matter where you end up.

Federal Agents Make Arrests in 11 State Fake ID Organization
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents announce charges in “highly sophisticated” document trafficking organization.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and federal investigators will release charges against a “highly sophisticated and violent” organization they allege was responsible for supplying false identification to thousands of illegal immigrants in 11 states.

The federal indictment accuses 22 men of being part of a Mexican-based crime organization with cells in Virginia, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Massaschusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Tennessee.

In Virginia, the organization is accused of operating cells in Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Manassas.

Investigators say the organization ran like a business with leadership in Mexico, and a chain of command involving managers, supervisors, and runners who solicited illegal aliens interested in buying false identification. According to the allegations, members could be promoted within the organization.

Prosecutors say the organization sold fraudulent Social Security cards, Permanent Resident Alien cards, and other identification for between $150 and $250 for a set.

According to the indictment, the organization used violence to eliminate competition from a targeted area. The indictment says the group would luring members of an existing illegal document operation to a meeting one the premise of buying documents, but ould beat and sometimes kidnap the document runner. Investigators say this practice led to at least one murder.

Federal investigators say they have records of more than $1 million being wired to the operation’s upper management in Mexico.

More details will be announced at an 11:00am press conference in Richmond.

I am beyond sick and tired of the games that just about everyone of these
supervisors play just to stay on that dias. It has reached the point that everything done there is quid pro quo. The actions taken are done solely to further each’s future political prospects. PWC residents have watched their hard earned tax dollars go for whatever is polically popular (i.e. sports fields for one) to push thru irresponsible planning (i.e. Vint Hill Rd development.)

Mr. Covington is one of the biggest offenders. He wants soccer fields, he got them, now we need to have a road to support these fields, a low priority road now moves to the top of the list. Who gets the most benefit from that road? PWC residents? No, those commuters that travel from Culpepper, Stafford, Spotslyvania, and Fauquier Counties. This is also true for the planned widening of Vint Hill Rd. to four lanes. These “improvements” only to serve to encourage more out of county travelers to use PWC as a cut thru to their destination. I would guess that Mr. Covington has been planning these changes since before his election to the board. He just keeps chipping away to get what he wants.

You are right, Mr. Covington is trying to re-district because he knows that left with the rural constituiency, he loses his seat. He has alienated many residents. Many of us ask who he really represents and what does he gain from all of those developer friends? Does he have financial interests that could be enhanced by undoing the Rural Crescent?

I hope that these questions will be publically asked of the candidates. What I would really like to see is a more engaged electorate. Here’s hoping. As an aside, I would like to say that the one supervisor that has earned my respect is Mr. May. Thank you for standing true to your convictions.

I moved to PWC fom Chesterfield County(county just south of Richmond) in 1994, Chesterfield has about 320,000 residents, when I moved Chesterfield had 5 Supervisors and continues to have 5. I was shocked to see that PWC has a very bloated 8 and am more shocked to learn that they want to add another after just increasing their bloated staff by one for each supervisor. It’s amazing how the 6 Rs hold them selves out as smaller gov’t advocates when reality is something very different. Instead of 8 or 9 supervisors, why not reduce the size of Gov’t and go to 5 supervisors. The more supervisors the more trouble they cause.

If they are going to add a Supervisor position, they should eliminate the at-large Chairman position.

I am disgusted with all of them - May and Stirrup seem to be the most genuine and honest - the rest are all false in so many ways and the public sees right through the silly games and posturing from the dia, some real candidates please!

For all of you who want to gripe all the time, PUT UP or SHUT UP!!! To Greg’s point, if you think you can do better, RUN. The time is now to get started. Obviously, Maureen is looking at another run. Ask her about how hard it is. It can be exciting and nerveracking to run. I am sure it is even more so to actually govern.

None of our guys are getting rich off that fantastic salary that we pay them.

    Covington has to go.

I hope that Jeanine Lawson decides to run against him in the GOP primary. She would make an excellent supervisor and would have my support!

    Dear Elected,
If I had the circumstances that allowed me to run, I would. Since I do not, I choose to speak up. I do not shirk my duties as a citizen. I vote. I attend meetings of various county boards, I just do not have the time nor the money to run for office. So please be careful with your words. There are other ways to “PUT UP” then jump into the political arena.

Count me as another strong Jeanine Lawson supporter. Wally obviously wants her redistricted out of his district, and if he succeeds we need to find someone else for that reason alone. Such cowardly behavior should not be rewarded with reelection. Let’s see a head-to-head match-up in the primary between Wally and Jeanine and let the voters decide. That way, even if Wally loses, he departs with some dignity.

Some people are just waiting to see the results of redistricting before announcing any candidacy.

Don’s going to have a bit of competition this Fall, thank goodness! Alyson Satterwhite has announced her candidacy for Gainesville School Board representative.

In lieu of Don’s history of disrespecting the parents and citizens in his district, Alyson has my full support. Check out her site - http://www.alysonsatterwhite.com/Home_Page.html

My wish is a true conservative to challenge Corey who does not want to sell us out to the developers and the Chamber of Commerce, aka “Illegals are okay and let’s just have some more civil war parties on tax payer dimes”

Corey is now in bed with the developers and Chamber of Commerce to ruin what is left of the Prince William Environment and promote more illegals coming here.

Corey supporters should note his use of your tax dollars (general fund and stormwater tax revenues) to subsidize heavily development in the County, ask him about that when he comes to your door or invites you to a fund raise event. Development is not paying for itself in this County. Ask him about his new Department Head, Wade Hugh, whose butt most of the Board can’t kiss enough for making it easier for developers to come into the county and pave it over with your tax dollars.

Ask him why he supports a Chamber that routinely lobbies Richmond and DC to go easy on illegals and prevent e-verify?
