PWC School Board Endorsements

Incumbent Gainesville school board representative Don Richardson got trounced by Alyson Satterwhite 42-13 at tonight’s committee meeting, putting a long-awaited, thundering nail in the political coffin of a board member who angrily told parents to “grow up” when they expressed concerns about the county schools. Congratulations to Alyson Satterwhite who has been working a long time for this.
The other contested decision tonight regarding the Brentsville District was a surprising attempt by Supervisor Wally Covington, fresh off his primary win, to exact a little bit of political revenge upon Brentsville school board member Gil Trenum. Now that Covington is out of danger, he’s free to act out against anyone who dared not wholeheartedly support him in his primary race, which gives us an early look at what the next four years will look like in Brentsville. It’s going to suck.
When it came time to nominate candidates for the endorsement this evening, instead of Covington being a team player, Covington didn’t just sit back and watch, but actually nominated John O’Leary as an opposition candidate to Gil Trenum. Other members of the Board of Supervisors had been team players for Wally’s benefit during the primary, but here’s Covington openly attacking Trenum as soon as he’s safe, presumably because Trenum had stayed neutral during the primary. Are you kidding me?
The committee didn’t think a whole lot of Covington trying to cut the legs out from under the Brentsville School Board representative, and endorsed Gil Trenum by a vote of 60-8. Good for them. I hope they stand up to any other antics from Wally Covington until they have another chance to replace him.
That could have happened this cycle if Jeanine Lawson’s father not fall ill with cancer late during the primary season. Jeanine set her precinct on fire, netting 80% of the vote there, but didn’t have much of an opportunity to make this brushfire spread like it should have. As it stands now there are a lot of people in Glenkirk, Limestone and Bristow Run who are unhappy with their current representation on the Board of Supervisors, and if Covington keeps up with his antics that’s only going to get worse for him.
Now we’re on to the general election, and there will be some interesting races. Neabsco Democrats once again have an utter nutcase running in their column, and Milt Johns has a pretty far left character running against him, also. Grant Lattin didn’t seek the Republican nomination (hmm, I’m sure this had nothing to do with that decision) but I don’t have a read on whether he’s opposed yet. I’ll have plenty more on this later, as these races can often be pretty entertaining to say the least.

Allyson has worked hard and deserved the nomination. Great job Allyson!!!
Greg, did anyone speak up for Don Richardson at the meeting? If so, who?
Good for Allyson. This is fantastic.
Brentsville residents — write in Jeanine Lawson for Supervisor in the General Election.
Sir Ham, I think this is an excellent idea, really. Mr. Covington sits in his little ivory tower and thinks that he is untouchable.
159 votes are not much of a cushion Wally, and you sure did not wait long to show your true colors. I hope this comes back to bite you. You disgrace the party.
