Chuck Colgan: Let Illegal Aliens Get Driver’s Licenses

By Greg L | 21 October 2011 | Illegal Aliens, 29th VA Senate, Prince William County | 17 Comments

A nun gets killed by a drunken illegal alien in a horrific vehicle accident on a Sunday morning.  State officials learn that the illegal alien had obtained a drivers license using an “Employment Authorization Document” given to him by the feds, and determine that Virginia should no longer issue driver’s licenses based on these credentials.  So what does Chuck Colgan want to do to prevent illegal aliens from killing any more of the residents in his district?

He says let the illegal aliens get driver’s licenses.

That stunning answer is found in Colgan’s responses to the Virginia Catholic Conference survey which asks participants whether they agree with the statement “Virginia should restore the Employment Authorization Document (“work permit”) to the list of documents accepted by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of legal presence to obtain a driver’s license.”  Colgan responded that yes, he agrees with that, while his opponent Tom Gordy, does not.  Even the openly homosexual and “social justice” minded Adam Ebbin doesn’t think we should be issuing driver’s licenses based on an EAD.

There’s a really good reason for that, as an EAD has typically been provided by the feds to illegal aliens who are in the process of being deported but need to have an income in order to financially support minor children until that happens.  It doesn’t establish legal presence (which is what a visa, or a “green card” does) at all, and the requirement under Virginia law is that driver’s licenses are only given to persons legally present in the Commonwealth.

You’d think after a horrific accident where one nun is killed and two others hospitalized by an illegal alien driving with a license that he got using an EAD — one that happened right in Colgan’s senate district, Colgan would be aware of the tremendous danger of such a foolhardy policy.  Not only does this put illegal aliens on our roads, but a driver’s license allows persons to board aircraft and enter federal facilities - such as the 9-11 hijackers, some of whom used Virginia driver’s licenses to board aircraft that killed thousands of Americans in 2001.

Chuck Colgan’s support of providing illegal aliens with drivers licenses will, not may, result in Virginians needlessly losing their lives, if such a measure is passed in the General Assembly.  It’s happened before, which is why we don’t allow use of an EAD to qualify for a Virginia driver’s license.  For Colgan to knowingly put the lives of his constituents at risk in order to make life somewhat easier for illegal aliens to unlawfully reside in the Commonwealth he should be thrown out of office in November.

“Duck” Colgan does not practice what he seems to support in the religious sense. It is a shame when a person uses his religion to gain votes while his party clearly supports the biggest murder machine in history - abortion by federal and state laws. ANYONE who is democrat and votes democrat as well supports their politicians by any means is a supporter of federal abortion, condones it and welcomes it. There is no other position.
Supporting illegals is flat wrong and this is aiding and abetting the destruction of all American values. It is clear that many organizations both in and outside of the United States fully desire to take back Texas to California in the southwest. Many schools at all levels now teach OUR children that the USA “illegally” took these lands and we are imperialist along with teaching Mexican hertiage and encouraging these changes that will change our country forever and not for the better. This is Colgan, a life long democrat who supports all these issues - all for votes.
As a catholic, our own catechism teaches us that capital punishment can be acceptable in certain cases - just like divorce.
I am not blind to polite “Duck” fooling the masses. He ALWAYS got money for his airport and that area while it took 20 years to finally get rt 28 widened. He never did get the funding for the PW Parkway (the initial portion from Manassas to RT1).

Duck needs to go. I am a former democrat and realized the err of my ways and REFUSE to be lead with a ring in my nose. Being conservative is far better than being an abortion supporter. I love my country, not desire to turn it over to illegals and socialist. We pay HUGE amounts in taxes for our schools and the product they deliver has NOT improved no matter how much they spend, how they change things to make it appear there is improvement when scores are down and the SOL test are taught with little else to consider. More teachers and higher pay do not produce better students. Duck can be “proud” of his achievements - whatever he and his supporters think they are. Dead nuns mean nothing to him - only votes.

Duck and your minions; if we lose this country in the end you have no idea what you have lost until it is gone; none whatsoever but then again, maybe you never really cared.

It will interesting to see if the Republicans publicly support Colgan this year as they did four years ago. Anyone remember the full page ad?

There are many reasons why an EAD can be issued - http://www.hooyou.com/ead/eligibility.html - and last I checked, there is no way to prevent someone from driving without a license. If they want to drive, they will drive. Focus your efforts on the employer who still pays these guys to work here in the US.

Don’t forget that Chucky Colgan gave more of our tax dollars to Michele Finn (who profitted by euthanizing her husband Hugh) after her husband was starved to death in a Manassas nursing home. As I recall, he gave her money to help smooth things over, after all she’d been through.

Hugh Finn had the right to die with dignity, and he did not all because of Delegate Marshall. Delegate Marshall drug Ms. Finn into court. The ONLY shame regarding the Hugh Finn case is Marshall’s actions. You must have been one of those out there parading around/protesting in front of a nursing home, where people need rest not to hear/see protesters. It sure made my family member’s stay there quite disrupted. Ms. Finn did NOT deserve to be put through that whole mess, and all at the hands of your buddy Bob. Thanks for disrupting my family member’s final days, NOT!!!

Actually, Bob Marshall represented Hugh’s parents who did not want their son to be offed by a greedy spouse. Gee, were the protesters outside your relative’s window with bullhorns? That would, indeed, be disruptive.

I don’t get it. I just checked out VPAP and I don’t understand why Republicans like Harry Parrish and John Gregory are donating to Chuck Colgan? Please explain, I’m new to politics but trying to learn and so far, what I’ve learned is turning my stomach.

oops, my bad…those donations were from another year. I don’t see anything for Gregory or Harry Parrish. I stand corrected but now that I think about it, why did they support him back then?

It’s ok zuzu, as a Republican, I also supported Colgan in the past, mainly because he was pro-life and he did bring a lot of business and transportation development to the County but, this year, I can’t do it. His soft stance on illegal immigration has flipped me and several of my associates to support Gordy. It’s an issue that has become so maddening to me that the other issues pale in comparison (to me anyway). I’m throwing all my support behind Gordy. Enough career politicians. I like Gordy, I admire his service as a Navy man, I like his positions on the issues and I think he’s the fresh perspective we need in Richmond…just one woman’s opinion.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told the House Judiciary Committee in written testimony submitted Wednesday that illegal aliens taken into custody by local law enforcement and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be given a phone number to call if they believe their civil rights have been violated.
The phone number will be provided on a form that will include directions on how to file a complaint in six different languages.

Napolitano told the committee that ICE has “updated its detainer form to clarify the longstanding rule that state and local authorities are not to detain an individual for more than 48 hours except for holidays and weekends.

“The new detainer form also requires state and local law enforcement to provide the arrestees with a copy of the form, which includes a number to call if they believe their civil rights have been violated by ICE,” said Napolitano.

You guys are lame. You act like the Republicans do so much for immigration. The crackdowns have been much tougher from Obama then when Bush was in office. If you are so concerned about illegals why aren’t you complaining to the federal government? Can a State Senator Or County Supervisor deport someone to Mexico ?
