The Manassas Political Establishment Fires Back

By Greg L | 1 May 2012 | Manassas City | 21 Comments

Your kids are kidnapped, you give up your high paying job to go rescue them in a foreign country and suffer terrible financial consequences as a result.  Then some miscreant decides to attack you for having gone into debt at one point in order to save your children.  Yep, that’s how afraid some establishment types in Manassas are at the prospect of having their lap dogs tossed out of office.

Read more about it here.  I get the impression the establishment is very concerned about today’s election if it has to try this garbage.

    When Aveni went on the council and Ms Carrol got her road work done around Seton School, no one squawked. Now ms. Carrol has Carman and Lovejoy signs in her yard. Can you imagine the power she’ll have with three pals on the council? Didn’t she play a major role in recruiting Steve Chapman? Wasn’t Chapman voted the worst candidate ever by this blog? You figure it out!

    Mr. Wong,

    You need to fear the good ole boy Republican establishment in this town a whole lot more than little ole Ms. Carroll and a bunch of faithful Catholics who are just trying to raise some kids. Unless, of course, you have major Catholic issues and prejudices like so many in this town and on the Moonhater blog.

    Sursum Corda,

    I suspect that Jon Wong is a good ole boy Republican and has a large collection of white sheets wfor when he was a good ole boy Democrat.

    Greg,

    Please see my comment on previous endorsement thread concerning Lori Perez.

    Lori Perez was a registered candidate for City School Board who the political establishment of Manassas forced off the ballot at the last minute, literally, due to what they claimed was a possible conflict of interest as she was a city employee. And “was” is the operative word, I just learned 15 minutes ago that she was recently fired from her job as a CPA for the city. Independent minded women with professional credentials are not the kind of work force suited for government work in Manassas and a CPA on a school board which has been accused of squandering and mismanaging funds is most obviously a conflict of interest for the powers to be in Manassas.

    I’ve met very few people with Mr. Suthlerland’s combination of determination, integrity, and intellect. The city would do well to have him on its school board.

    Why does she hate so much?

    She is obsessed with all things abortion!

    Can someone ask her to stick to the County, we do not want her hate here.

    It appears to me that Mr. Suthlerland, as a man with a pecker and not a woman with boobs in the liberal established family court system simply did all he could to fight for his kids.

    In the liberal eastablished family court system, every father is deadbeat until proven otherwise. It doesn’t matter if you won the Medal of Honor - you are still considered a deadbeat.

    Women on the otherhand, even if running a meth lab near the coffee maker in the kitchen are considered by the liberal established family court system to have set custody rights for the kids until the deadbeat dad is proven fit otherwise, even if he won the Medal of Honor.

    Mr. Sutherland is an honorable man.

    Liberals can go F**K themselves.

    Lil ole Ms. Carrol got a big stick. Don’t under estimate Ms. Carrol. Aveni owes his win at the first convention to her minions who were taught about plunkering. Lovejoy owes her too. Saw plenty plunkering at the most recent convention too. It’s not illegal. Help your friends. Punish your enemies. Ms. Carrol knows all about these rules.

    Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with anyone organizing to advance their agenda. I had a problem with Steve Chapman….”THE WORST CANDIDATE EVER ACCORDING TO THE READERS OF THIS BLOG”. Just don’t think folks don’t know what’s going on. Don’t piss on my shoe and tell me it’s raining!

    @Jon Wong,

    You give Seton too much credit…the vast majority of Seton families don’t live in the City of Manassas and can’t vote here.

    @Doug,

    Humph, Lori Perez wasn’t allowed to run for school board due to a “conflict of interest” but Albrecht’s wife being a teacher in a MCPS isn’t a conflict??? Now that Lore was conveniently let go AFTER her chances of representing us on the school board are dashed makes me even more suspicious. Things that make you want to say ….mmmmmmmmm

    4kids,

    Forcing Lori off the ballot and into the hospital for emergency medical attention was the decisive moment in this election, it forced those of us who wanted a clean sweep of the School Board to play shorthanded for the rest of the election.

    @Doug,

    I knew Lori wasn’t allowed to run but I don’t know the entire story. If you are at liberty to share details, please do.

    4kids,

    I know Hal, and, according to Lori, another sitting City Council member, expressed their opinions to Pat Weiler, Acting City Manager, that Lori being elected to the School Board would result in a conflict of interest given her work for the city. Of course, supporters of Lori had already been thru this issue and the City Attorney had been consulted and expressed his opinion that there would be no conflict of interest. Nevertheless, the Mayor, the City Council person, and I was told sitting School Board members raised their concern over a conflict of interest. Consequently, Pat Weiler informed Lori she would have to withdraw her candidacy for the board or lose her job as a CPA for the City. Under pressure to save her job, she resigned at the last possible moment and ended up in the hospital that night for stress related conditions.

    Yesterday, I learned that Lori lost her job anyway right before the election.

    (And the Moonhowlers call me a bully)

    At least Sheryl Bass is out. It is no easy task to remove a seated incumbent but it was done and it can be done again in 2014! Lots of pink tee shirts going to Goodwill today!

    Maybe some of those Bass supporters can find out what her position on Lori’s conflict of interest was? Funny I don’t recall any issue of conflict of interest being raised when Ms Bass came over from the School Board to the City Council with access to the same numbers. I guess some women are more equal than others in Manassas.

    For a city that is half hispanic, why are the white people running it?

    @anonymous,

    Because so many of hispanics around here are illegal and can’t run for office and/or vote.
