The Florida legislature is now considering a bill that protects the lives of babies born alive in abortion clinics, which sometimes happens as the result of a botched abortion. Planned Parenthood came out to argue against the bill, and in this stunning video their lobbyist Alisa Laport Snow was asked some rather important questions about how Planned Parenthood engages in the business of abortion and did her very best not to answer them. The same day this video is released, Democrat candidate for Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam sends out a fundraising appeal pledging to defend the abortion industry.
What kind of monsters could possibly argue that a baby born alive has no right to live? To make a decision that that baby should die, either through withholding medical care or by actively taking action to terminate that life, is simply murder. There’s no shade of gray here. This is not only killing another human being, but killing the most innocent of human beings.
The abortion industry and their allies in the Democrat party are fighting as hard as they can to ensure that abortionists can murder babies. They call this “women’s healthcare.” It is not. Healthcare doesn’t kill people, and abortion doesn’t promote the health of anyone — it quite clearly obliterates the health of the victim. It is difficult to imagine a more brutal, disgusting, and morally reprehensible practice than the one Planned Parenthood is trying to perpetuate here.
Yet protecting the abortion industry is a central platform of Democrat candidates in Virginia this year. It is among the very first issues they cite as a reason for why they are running. In fact, Ralph Northam a Democrat running for Lieutenant Governor this year posted a fundraising appeal on his facebook page today (which is Good Friday) and it was the only reason he cited for anyone to support his campaign.
There’s no question about it, we must hold Virginia Republicans accountable for their assault on women’s rights! That means electing a Democrat as Lieutenant Governor this year and the one of the best paths to victory is by reminding voters that the Republican social agenda is wrong for Virginia.
A better message cannot win unless voters hear it. I need your help to prove that Democrats here in Virginia have the strength to communicate our message and win! Please don’t wait and let the Republicans get a head start on communication with voters.
We must fill a $5,000 fundraising gap before the March 31 deadline. Can you contribute $500, $50, or $5 to help us reach this goal today?
Please send money to Northam so he can ensure Planned Parenthood will be able to profit from the murder of innocent children?
I don’t think so.
UPDATE: Video of the entire committee meeting is available here.
UPDATE 2: The Weekly Standard provided a partial transcript of the exchange. I wonder how Ralph Northam would have answered these questions.
“So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief,” said Rep. Jim Boyd. “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
“We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician,” said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.
Rep. Daniel Davis then asked Snow, “What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”
“I do not have that information,” Snow replied. “I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”
Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, “You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”
Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”
“I think that at that point the patient would be the child struggling on the table, wouldn’t you agree?” asked Oliva.
“That’s a very good question. I really don’t know how to answer that,” Snow said. “I would be glad to have some more conversations with you about this.”
Later another representative asked Snow, “What objection could you possibly have to obligate a doctor to transport a child born alive to a hospital where it seems to me they would be most likely to be able to survive?”
Snow said Planned Parenthood was concerned about “those situations where it is in a rural health care setting, the hospital is 45 minutes or an hour away, that’s the closest trauma center or emergency room. You know there’s just some logistical issues involved that we have some concerns about.”
UPDATE 3: The American Life League points out that Planned Parenthood isn’t just about killing babies, it’s about poisoning minds as well.
