Birds Of A Feather…

PWC Democratic Chairman Harry Wiggins had the pleasure of receiving a delegation of Chinese Communist Party members today, May Day 2013.

I have to wonder just who learned more during that exchange.

Well Greg, now for the rest of the story, prior to my meeting your beloved Chairman, Corey Stewart spent about 2 hours with them, and received a very nice gift. The meeting was to be in Stewarts Conference Room, but due to the large contingent of County employees Stewart brought along it was moved to the Potomac Room. I then met with the delegation: a professor (Dr. Lin Tuo) from East China Normal University, a PhD student from the same University, the Cousellor for Sub -National Government Affairs, Embassy of PRC, and the First Secretary, Embassy, PRC. The discussion was simple, how is the Democratic Party organized and do the volunteers, such as my self get paid (ah, ah, no). Immediately after my meeting, your Bill Card, Chairman of the Prince William Republican Committee met with the delegation. I understand that Bill Card was converted and is now Second Deputy to the First Deputy of the Third Tier of the Second Postualte to the Ambassador of the Embassy PRC.

Now for the kicker, the entire event was arranged by Chairman Stewart’s office, coordinated by Laurie Cronin.

I saved the entire email thread where this was coordinated.

    Greg,

I cannot tel a lie - I was invited to meet with the CHICOMS and I did. I met Harry on his way out of his love fest with them and I did mention to Harry that it was much more appropriate for him to meet with his ideological soul mates on May Day than it was for me.

It was a fascinating meeting - much like you would experience if you went to the HQ of Moveon.org. They asked me three basic questions:

    1. How do you cooperate with the democrat party? I told them that we did not - that in this particularly polarized time we were in opposition on most issues. I did draw their attention to the fact that Harry and I are generally cordial to each other however. I used the Bipartisan Election Task Force as an example of where we generally want the same things and we are cooperating fairly well.

    2. How do you interface with the government? I explained the difference between a Democracy and a Republic and told them that I have weighed in on issues privately and publicly - but generally my focus was on the next election.

    3. Then they explained the advantages of the CHICOM system of one party rule and asked my opinion. I told that that we tried that in 2008-2010 and the result was the still wildly unpopular “Obamacare.” One party rule was a disaster and resulted in the election of 2010. I also pointed out how the natural tension between parties made for better government and legislation using the Civil Rights Act of 1957 as an example. Though defeated by the democrats when Republicans brought it to a vote, then ignored by Kennedy, when LBJ reluctantly ushered it forward - Republicans broke the democrat filibuster and were instrumental to its passage.

I also told them that Socialism was a system that brought everyone down to a common level of misery.

And that dear friends was my contribution on May Day.
