It’s just heartwarming how in the midst of multi-million dollar budget mistakes, inane decisions that gave us logo-gate, and persistent general government malfeasance, Prince William County Government has established a new priority goal that will benefit the whole community: a plan to attack citizens who dare to criticize government. I’m sure when Melissa Peacor is done pummeling local bloggers into the ground our communities will be far better, our taxes lower, and every illegal alien day laborer in the county will speak with a British accent, because obviously it’s the bloggers who are the problem.
Here’s a tip for the tyrants at McCoart: if you weren’t so awfully brazen about demonstrating what a corrupt monarchy would look like as a governance system, there probably wouldn’t be blogs popping up dedicated to outing the complaints of the remaining county employees who are utterly aghast at what Peacor and her star chamber are up to. If there’s not heaping piles of dog crap littering the yard, you don’t generally have a problem with annoying insects.
We have a crap problem in Prince William County. A massive one that has two local bloggers seemingly dedicated full-time to exposing government waste, fraud and abuse at the local level and two more that harp on it when the bloggers have some time to spare. This site falls into the second category while newer sites like The Derecho and The Sheriff perform the heavy lifting lately. There’s no other locality in Virginia where this is happening, although there are blogs everywhere in Virginia. It’s not like Prince William County should have cornered the market on local government tyranny, and it’s not as if Prince William County has so many more people than any other locality that there are just going to be a lot of local blogs and a lot of them will talk about local government. It’s not the largest locality, it’s not the richest, and it’s not in any other demographic way unusual.
Prince William County is simply more corrupt, and residents are sick of it. Our Democrats are more corrupt, our Republicans are more corrupt, and our county executive leadership is more corrupt than anywhere else in Virginia. If the FBI actually bothered to look into local government corruption, because our corrupt Commonwealth’s Attorney is demonstrably not up to the task, they’d have a field day in this place.
A few are fighting back, like the citizens who run these blogs, Supervisor Peter Candland and a handful of county activists of different stripes. Someday they’re going to be the ones that clean this place up. That day of reckoning is coming regardless of who Melissa Peacor decides to target with official government harassment. That harassment will probably only hasten the process, but that process is inevitable.
UPDATE: In case you might have thought the school board has escaped scrutiny, it hasn’t. Check out “Stop The Tidal Wave” and see if you can guess how long it will take for the school staff to set up it’s own list of enemy taxpayers to punish.
