Mark Wolfe Turns Democrat

By Greg L | 23 October 2014 | Manassas City | 27 Comments

Manassas Votes, The local PAC run by Democrats Stephen Hirsch and Nancy Ingram, put out an ad today in the local paper endorsing candidates for the Manassas City Council elections, and what do you know, there’s Republican Mark Wolfe including his endorsement of a slate of two Democrats and one Republican.  After voting for every tax increase imaginable and every spending program anyone could possibly conceive, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.  Still, I hope the Manassas GOP finally kicks this guy off the Republican Committee.  He’s just begging for it, and someone needs to step up and make sure that happens.

It’s not as if this kind of action is entirely unusual, given that Ken Cuccinelli was removed from his local committee after endorsing a non-Republican a few years back when the Republican candidate for an office in Virginia Beach turned out to be a complete turd and the independent running against him was a highly respected former member of the House of Delegates.  That time, the Prince William Committee followed procedure and stripped him of his membership even though they really didn’t want to do it.  Here’s a case of someone willfully trying to sabotage Republican campaigns in his own district and whose been acting like a liberal spendthrift during his entire tenure while violating ethics rules regarding conflicts of interest so he can funnel taxpayer money to the entity that pays his wife a salary.

This whole campaign season in Manassas has been a mess from the get-go.   Hal Parrish plays hands-off on the election since he wants to run for higher office and lets Andy Harrover blindside the committee by not telling them he plans to not run for re-election until the filing deadline for candidates.  That leaves the Republicans, for the first time anyone can remember, without a full slate of candidates for city council.  Marc Aveni runs for re-election, Sheryl Bass, who lost a nomination contest two years ago because she’s a pathetic tax-and-spend liberal with a Republican bumper sticker, filed to run as a Republican (and sadly, she’ll likely get in this time).  She’s joined by Democrats Ken Elston and Patricia Ritchie-Folks, of which at least one will win a spot.  What a disaster.  With 10%+ annual tax hikes, only one of the four candidates running have shown any inclination to control spending in any way at all, and that’s Marc Aveni.

Now we have Republican elected officials endorsing Democrats for office who are running against Republican candidates.  Calling Hal Parrish - your legacy in Manassas is ablaze, your city is on the brink of being run by folks who can’t bankrupt it quickly enough, and if you think this is going to help sell a nice narrative as you run to replace Chuck Colgan in the Senate, you’re wrong.

Just think how many votes Nero would have garnered among the Romans as a guy like Mark Wolfe was busily scurrying around the city setting it on fire.  Time to put down the fiddle and start putting out the fire, my friend.

Good analysis. Wolfe is a win at any cost turn coat who works only for the two big special interests in Manassas (public school zealots, ballet and theater elitists). The Republican Party in Manassas must immediately show him the door. He is an embarrassment to the City and party, please don’t let him go any higher in public office.

    Greg,

The thing about Andy Harrover waiting was probably planned so that another conservative would not have enough time to get the third nomination. The City of Manassas Republican Party had better step up and do something about this.

I am so sickened by the political back stabbing and trying to take Marc Aveni down at all costs. Disband the Republican Party and join the Dems since the crickets are chirping from them

The really evil thing in all this is if you watched the debate like I did Marc was clearly the most articulate and well qualified. I hope the citizens of Manassas are smarter than the Manassas Education PAC and their lefty friends think

To me there is nothing worse than someone who belongs to one political party and runs under that party to go ahead and endorse candidates from the opposing party. If someone truly does not like the candidate or candidates in their party for some reason, then just don’t say anything. You don’t go out and endorse the other party candidates. No respect for Mark Wolfe after this. The purpose of endorsing Mr. Elston is that he is a supporter of the Arts and of course that is his background so Mr. Wolfe will have a true ally on the council to fund more money for the arts programs in and out of the City of Manassas.

There is an all out assault in the City of Manassas to oust Marc Aveni. I guess they feel they can get rid of the problem (Mr. Aveni) so they can go ahead and spend away on schools and the arts.

Mary Ann is forgetting that Marc a
Aveni supported candidates last election cycle who weren’t Republicans. Was that OK? Didn’t think so.

All I can say is here come the democrats and the tax increases Manassas! They are out there promising it all to the good Manassas folks led by the Chief of all that is unscrupulous Mark Wolfe!

We are already at a higher tax than the other cities and counties so get real voters, run away from democrats and Wolfe!

And Pony, I recall Aveni only publicly endorsed Lovejoy, a republican, the last election and certainly never campaigned with non republicans, gave them money, attended their campaign events, or took out newspaper ads to support LIBERAL DEMOCRATS, a big difference like Mary Ann says, so get your facts straight and go steal some more Aveni signs since thats your only hope at this point.

I would note that “Manassas Votes” is apparently a PAC run by two folks (the only contributors) who are mother and son (Nancy Hersch Ingram and Stephen Hersch). If the endorsement of two person family pac means this much then things are much farther gone in Manassas than I realized.

Thanks B., I could not agree more. Who cares what these idiots think or who they endorse, if they are so desperate to get rid of this guy he must be doing something right! Aveni has my vote, heck I might even send him a check!

Aveni is a hypocrite….he works for PWC and always complains of not having enough money to run his Dept. He wants PWC to raise taxes and Manassas to cut them…what ever suits your personal use best I guess

your attempts to assasinate Aveni and his character are not working Dave, we know who Aveni is and we support him in spite the unprecedented attacks on him from the school board and his fellow (most) council members for the crime of asking questions about your foolish spending, what are you scared of any way - someone getting in the way of your robbery of the average tax payer?????

Wolfe has done far more than Aveni ever has in supporting Republican candidates. He hosted a fund raiser for Barbara Comstock and has worked for Frank Wolf and George Allen.

It is personal with Wolfe and it clearly clouds his judgement, Aveni calls him out on his “ballet-gate funding” every year, Cheryl Bass and Hal Parrish benefit from this too ballet funding too as president and board members, thats why they are quiet on this, Mr. Elston will soon benefit as well for his theater department job with George Mason University and the Hylton Arts more money grab for plays, everyone knows why they are trying so hard to get rid of MArc

Didn’t Aveni target Wolfe at the convention and election? He even had a Jerry Carmen sign in his front yard. And now Aveni is telling voters that Bass is not a Republican. You reap what you sow.

Actually I checked and Aveni has a picture of him and Bass on his website, where is your evidence for the bold claims you make? When has he said that about Bass?

It was Wolfe the turncoat who brought in the democrats to the last convention (more dis-honesty on his part) to support him alone (he told folks to bullet vote for him) all of which actually caused Bass to lose out. Your support for Wolfe is revolting and Manassas is in fact reaping nothing good with him on the council

Party purity concerns at the micro level are a major panty twister for some of you, that’s for sure. What this city needs isn’t Aveni, it’s more rich people. They spend money, don’t cry about taxes, and like their city fathers to have a little vision. Without goals and the plans to achieve them, all we get are cage rattlers with salary envy. If nothing else, we should have all had our fill of petulance from a certain councilman by now.

It’s not about party “purity” but has everything to do with the pledge you take when you join the Party. If you don’t want to support your fellow Republicans don’t belong to the Party. Be an Indepenent or a democrat.
Abraham are you saying that we as middle class people do not belong in Manassas? That we are not allowed to have a differing opinion Dom the “rich” elites that live here?

Of course not, Mo. Middle class folk should make up the largest population proportion here, and their opinions are worth what everyone else’s are. But right now we’re way too heavy on poor, and light on rich.

In regards to party purity, pledges, and the like, you can run your clubs however you’d like, and I suppose if Mr Wolfe doesn’t toe your line you could kick him out. But when those attitudes winnow my party down to a bunch of abortion protestors, religious zealots, and folks who just don’t think government should ever collect taxes, your electoral hopes will wither.

According to Francis, remorse is possible only when one is aware of evil, which is not the case with a corrupt person.

“The corrupt person does not perceive his corruption,” the Pope said. “For this reason, it is difficult for the corrupt person to get out of his state through remorse of conscience. More than forgiven, this evil must be cured,” he said.

“The scandalous concentration of global wealth,” said Francis, “is possible through the connivance of political authorities.”

“Few things are harder than opening a breach in a corrupt heart,” Francis continued. “When the personal situation of the corrupt becomes complicated, he knows all the loopholes to escape as did the dishonest steward of the Gospel.”

“The corrupt person goes through life taking the shortcuts of opportunism,” said the Pope, “with an air of innocence, wearing the mask of an honest person, which he begins to believe.” The corrupt person “cannot accept criticism, discredits anyone who criticizes him, tries to belittle any moral authority who would question him, does not value others and insults anyone who thinks differently. If the balance of power permits, he persecutes anyone who contradicts him.”

Unfortunately, according to Francis, the problem is widespread.

“Corruption has become natural, a personal and social custom, a common practice in commercial and financial transactions, in public procurement, in any negotiation involving State agents,” he said.

People should be principled, especially when you are seeking office. When you call yourself a Republican, be ONE! If you want to endorse Democrats then quit the party and join the Dem’s. It is inherently dishonest what Wolfe is doing to Marc and I hope the voters of Manassas remember that next election.

BTW- Has anyone heard if the Republican Party is going to do anything about Wolfe endorsing two Dem’s?

The Republican Party isn’t going to do anything about Mark Wolfe and everybody in this town knows it. Stand up for yourselves you bunch of gutless wonders and quit letting the School Board and certain members of the City Council pick your pockets and raise your taxes.

I’ve given you so many reasons to stop this guy in his tracks - from hiring illegal aliens to manipulating arts funding in PWC and Manassas for the financial benefit of a company run by his wife - but no one lifts a finger All of the “hums” and “hrrumphs” in the world won’t help, so why not just let it go? Attend church, play golf, and cluck your tongues. That would be the easiest thing, wouldn’t it?

Yep and once the School Board takes over the City Council you might as well just head over to City Hall and hand over your house keys to Robin or just drop them in the night box.
