Kelly Building Becomes Animal House

So, it’s an amazing but true story, one that once again calls into question the leadership of Prince William County Schools. Carolyn Custard, the Director of the Office of Student Services, throws one hell of a party (or at least she thinks she does). The only problem is that it was a party that took place during work hours and involved seriously inappropriate conduct on the part of school division leadership.

On November 21st, Ms. Custard organized a mid-day birthday party in the Kelly Building. Oh, what a party it was! The biggest hit was when one of the supervisors, naked except for a pair of shorts, dressed in a toga. The event was ripe with sexual references and innuendos — apparently intended to be entertaining. The male supervisor, played the part of a semi-nude model posing for a portrait and, at one point, someone held out a measuring stick to measure the size of his genitalia. Really?

Oh, and guess what was on the menu?…Smoked wieners and hot nuts. Clever, huh?

Seriously? What the hell is going on up there? Is this our county tax dollars at work?

UPDATE: Less than 24 hours after this posted, PWCS is in full damage control mode and trying to divert attention by talking about wearing togas instead of all the other much more troubling behavior that was alleged at this party.  The persons responsible haven’t been identified, the consequences for this behavior haven’t been divulged, and no mention yet of any changes in school policy.  Our take-away at BVBL: if you want to measure a guy’s penis in the Kelly Center while munching on smoked wieners and hot nuts, that’s fine as long as he’s not wearing a toga.

Anyone available to verify this?? Anyone involved in inappropriate behavior needs to go. Teachers can’t even show a movie the last few days before Break, but these people can do this? Let them, but show them consequences.

Here’s a question…why in the holy hell do PWC taxpayers put up with this kind of garbage? And further, the millions and millions amount of tax dollars wasted, not only at the KLC, but the discretionary spending that goes on at the individual schools. There is absolutely no control or check on the powers of the purse that the Principals have. And one more thing…do taxpayers have a clue about the millions of dollars spent sending employees to various conferences throughout the country. Attendees are put up in first class hotels, given an exuberant amount of money to cover food and transportation. Lastly, in a great many cases, teachers and other staff members are sent to conferences in which they present. Why are we paying for professional development for teachers in other schools? The disgusting part of all of this is that taxpayers just plain don’t care, don’t want to upset the status quo, etc.

“Attendees are put up in first class hotels, given an exuberant amount of money to cover food and transportation.”

The hotels are not 4 or 5 stars and there is a set amount of money per meal. You also get reimbursed $0.56 per mile.

This is clearly a satirical article. Did you read the part about alleged behavior?

When teachers go to conferences, they have to share a room and it can take a few pay cycles for them to be reimbursed. Our superintendent gets to go on nicer conferences - and more of them. Teachers should have professional development. We as taxpayers pay for some military personnel to get a MS or PhD - and all at cost. That is much better than what a county teacher gets. You can’t treat teachers like garbage and expect them to stay (I know - I left!)

I have no problem with teachers going to conferences. Should we be paying teachers to go to conferences to present to teachers in other locales? How does that benefit our teachers? You are correct though that Admin and Board members are truly put up in the 5 star hotels, and I’d bet my paycheck that none of them are asked to share a room.

Check out the black educator conference if you want to see lavish money handed out.

The other conferences aren’t nearly as generous. FIOA that one.

There’s a reason that this isn’t being reported by any reputable news source. Has anyone ever heard that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet?

That must be why the Schools put out a press release admitting to what happened and Potomac Local has a story on it. http://potomaclocal.com/2014/12/08/toga-inappropriate-dress-work-party-says-schools-spokeswoman/

    Be careful out there, folks.
