Why The Media Tried (And Failed) To Protect Senator Don McEachin

By Greg L | 25 August 2015 | DPVA, Virginia Senate | 6 Comments

So the Times-Dispatch has finally decided to run the story on Tommy Norment trolling for mistresses on Ashley Madison now that the protective cover that they were giving to Senator Donald McEachin couldn’t be maintained any longer.  It was amazing how the “mainstream” press and the liberal blogs were ignoring that serial womanizer Norment showed up in the Ashley Madison data, even though you’d think they’d take any and every opportunity to throw rocks at a Republican.  If they published a story about Norment though, they’d also have to run the story on McEachin, and they weren’t going to do that unless they had no other choice.

Now at this point you just might be wondering why that is.   McEachin is in a really safe, perfectly gerrymandered district and he doesn’t even have an opponent in November.  Why in the world would they feel they have to protect him so much?  It’s not as if he’s vulnerable at all.  Or at least you’d think that from the dismissive coverage in the Times-Dispatch today, where McEachin denies everything, and the eagle-eyed reporters just let it go at that, as if nobody else on the planet has access to the Ashley Madison data.

So let’s take a look, shall we?

Data Notes:  Apparently this much data isn’t going to work in a pretty table format so you’ll have to suffer through a raw text dump.  The “first name” field is actually where Ashley Madison (stupidly) puts the ID number for the member’s profile.  I redacted all but the last digit of the last four digits of the credit card to show that two different credit cards have been used.  Hopefully this will be more understandable than my first attempt, which didn’t fit on the width of the page.

What you see here are effectively three separate transactions.  The first two records - which are actually one transaction done in two steps, relate to one user profile, and the subsequent two transactions relate to a different user profile.  The street address is that of the law firm McEachin & Gee so if someone has somehow “hacked” here they’ve done an awfully good job of not only having perfectly accurate information, but being consistent with it over a period of three and a half years without Don McEachin ever noticing strange charges on his credit card and bothering to do anything about them.  This isn’t a hack.

Now let’s take a look at what those profiles were. There’s the first one:

Apparently McEachin decided to delete this profile in 2014 and establish a different one for some reason. Perhaps the codes that remain after Ashley Madison snookered McEachin into paying money to have them not delete his data can enlighten us:

GENDER: 2 = MALE
PROFILE ETHNICITY: 2 = AFRICAN-AMERICAN (BLACK)
PROFILE WEIGHT: 124740 = 275 LBS (125KG)
PROFILE HEIGHT: 193 = 6′ 4″
PROFILE BODYTYPE: 6 = A FEW EXTRA POUNDS
PROFILE INITIALLY SEEKING: 5 = MALE SEEKING MALE

The “hackers” seemed to have gotten Don McEachin’s height and weight right, even though they are a bit generous with the “a few extra pounds” description, but they must have gotten the whole ‘guy looking for men’ thing all wrong, musn’t they? You can’t tell me that Don McEachin, a married guy, is out there looking to cheat on his wife with guys, can you???

Anyhow, the second profile which didn’t seem worthy of Don paying money to a shady company to have his personal information not disappeared somehow seems to resolve all our lingering concerns here. I’ll just cover the nonblank fields of interest to be somewhat concise here:

PROFILE ID: 27075475
CREATED ON: 2014-07-11 19:51:54
UPDATED ON: 2014-07-11 19:51:54
CITY: Richmond
ZIP: 23223
STATE: 49
LATITUDE: 37.558121
LONGITUDE: -77.374277
COUNTRY: 1 =”USA”
DOB: 1961-06-07
PROFILE CAPTION: looking for benefits and friendship
PROFILE ETHNICITY: 2 = “AFRICAN-AMERICAN/BLACK”
PROFILE WEIGHT: 127008 = 280 LBS
PROFILE HEIGHT: 193 = 6′ 4″
PROFILE BODYTYPE: 4 = “AVERAGE/MEDIUM”
PROFILE INITIALLY SEEKING: 2 = “ATTACHED MALE SEEKING FEMALES”

Whew! That’s reassuring! Don McEachin now has an “average/medium” build instead of having “a few extra pounds.” That’s quite encouraging.

Unfortunately the other tables in the database don’t show us what actually “turns on” Don McEachin, or what he’s looking for, or open to.  That seems to be a pretty common issue in the Ashley Madison database, as many users simply didn’t care enough to bother with telling anyone else about that.  I suppose with all the “credits” that McEachin purchased, he could go into that in private chat discussions with whomever he wanted to speak with and fill them in.

Perhaps now can you figure out why the liberal media and the Democrat caucus was so desperately trying not to talk about elected officials screwing around with Ashley Madison?  There was something more important to them than burning down the Senate Republican majority leader.  They thought that McEachin’s wonderfully progressive district, which has been so devoted to his political aspirations, might react in a negative way if they saw data that suggested that the preacher McEachin might be screwing around on his wife by having sex with strange men.  What if they forced McEachin to resign?  If they didn’t have McEachin to groom into future state-wide leadership, their senate caucus of old, mostly white guys wouldn’t have anyone able to carry the torch forward in the future.  That would be bad.

If that meant protecting the Senate Republican Majority Leader, who was already in hot water for sleeping with lobbyists (and who now it appears cheats on his mistresses with Ashley Madison-driven encounters to boot), than so be it.

I have lost all faith in the press.  How can they not report on a story like this?

UPDATE 1: For someone claiming that they are not the “kxkappa” user on Ashley Madison, they seem to have no problem being user “kxkappa” on Ancestry.com and asking questions about the McEachin surname.  The “kxkappa” users on instagram and dateamillionaire.com seem to have disappeared today, but the “kxkappa” account on sugardaddyforme.com still remains as of today and is an African-American man living in Richmond.

McEachin is listed as a founding member of the Kappa Chi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in 1980, so the user nickname makes sense.  If someone decided to “hack” McEachin and put fake profiles on all of these websites soliciting adulterous affairs, they sure seemed to get their research right and have maintained a remarkably consistent effort that spans at least five years and seems to continue to this day.  I’m sure a lot of us would love to see when McEachin disputed all these supposedly fraudulent charges on his credit cards for all of these sites.

My understanding is that you are incorrect about `profile_initially_seeking` because the `profile_relationship` integer 2 represents “attached male seeking female”. It doesn’t make any sense to have that same set of constants relate to the integers in `profile_initially_seeking` - certainly not in contradiction to them.

I believe the source code of AM’s current website clues us in to what the `profile_initially_seeking` could be:

    class=”shortInputHilite limits” >
Please Select—–Something Short TermSomething Long TermCyber Affair / Erotic ChatWhatever Excites MeAnything GoesUndecided

McEachin’s integer would then be “Anything Goes” in the first account and “Something Long Term” in the second.

Doh. I should have known better than to paste HTML into the chat box…

Thanks for the info. I’ve emailed you for additional info so I can go through and audit all the data findings and look forward to taking a pass confirming all data translations using the current production version of the website.

As for my review, the code values for that field appear to be this:

If you have additional information I’m very happy to receive it.

I’m glad I found your website as I was not finding much information about the Ashley Madison leak. The layout of your information is blocked at times, however, by ads.

For example, the chart you posted entitled: ‘Credit Card Transactions by Don McEachin’ has ads posted over print on the right side.

If you could adjust your page to prevent the ads from covering your data it would be helpful.

    Thanks

Judy - thanks for the head’s up on that. I tried to make it more readable by putting it into a table, but it’s just going to be too wide. I just dumped it out in text format instead and while it’s not pretty, you can at least read it all.

    Isn’t this database stolen property?
