Bob Marshall Tops Poll
22 April 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 7 Comments
The campaign of Jim Gilmore has sent out another dubious press release claiming that they have commitments from a majority of delegates who will attend the RPV convention in Richmond in a few weeks. Since these pronouncements fly directly in the face of what many in the Virginia blogosphere say they observed at recent county […]
The Gilmore Campaign Spin Machine Cranks Up
18 April 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 7 Comments
The Gilmore for Senate campaign under Dick Leggett is desperately trying to spin the what happened at some recent conventions in Virginia where Bob Marshall received a truly tremendous response from the delegates. After relating to readers what myself and several bloggers in other jurisdictions personally observed, the Gilmore campaign is responding with this, […]

Bob Marshall Stuns With Unprecedented Momentum
13 April 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 7 Comments
Bloggers have been watching a number of Republican mass meetings and county conventions and reporting a definite trend that seems to be bucking the conventional wisdom big time. While party insiders and the media have been predicting that the Senate race will be one between Mark Warner and Jim Gilmore, the developing reality may […]

“Gail For Rail” Enters Senate Race
31 March 2008 | Virginia Politics, Humor & Satire, US Senate | No Comments
Looks like we have another candidate for U.S. Senate, according to The Shad Plank: “Gail For Rail” Parker. Her candidacy last time was a rather amusing exercise in seeing just how additional rail construction projects could solve just about every problem facing the country.
Parker really REALLY likes “rail!” In fact, she likes “rail!” so much […]

Who Does Jim Webb Really Represent?
21 March 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 21 Comments
The rationale behind the Washington Post’s puff piece about Senator Jim Webb was really hard to grasp, until almost the very end of the article:
He introduced a bill that would prohibit Bush from taking military action against Iran without congressional approval. He weighed in on the Senate immigration debate with a proposal that would allow […]

Bob Marshall’s Reagan-esque Border Security Solution
15 March 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 17 Comments
My good friend over at Spank That Donkey, who seems to at least temporarily at odds with me over who should receive the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator, has taken issue with remarks reportedly by Bob Marshall which suggested that the 35,000 soldiers now stationed in Germany could be put to a lot better use […]

Gilmore Runs To Momma
12 March 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 25 Comments
Oh, this is really going to work in a General Election against Mark Warner. Bob Marshall gives Gilmore a little jab about the level of support he is providing to initiatives to prevent the murder of the unborn, which pretty much didn’t get a whole lot of folks all that riled up, and Gilmore […]
Shaun Kenny Sums Up Marshall Candidacy
27 February 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 21 Comments
If ever there was a defining statement about a candidate, Shaun Kenney just gave it in a Washington Times article in today’s edition:
“People may come after him and say he is not a team payer, but Bob Marshall never has to apologize for a bad vote to his conservative base,” Mr. Kenney said.
The operative word […]

Bob Marshall Makes It Official
7 January 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 43 Comments
Bob Marshall has officially announced his candidacy for the United States Senate. His statement today should make any Virginia conservative proud, in that there’s actually someone out there who is willing to go to bat for our principles, and demonstrably doesn’t care who that manages to upset. This is about as pure a policy platform […]

Bob Marshall Will Announce On Monday
5 January 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 30 Comments
Delegate Bob Marshall told guests at tonight’s social event hosted by Jay O’Brien that he would officially announce his candidacy for United States Senate on Monday. Bob joins former Governor Jim Gilmore as the only announced candidates for the Republican nomination, which will be decided by a convention.
This is very welcome news.

Potential NVTA Lawsuit Shockwaves
31 December 2007 | 13th HOD District, Virginia Politics, US Senate | 15 Comments
Northern Virginia will collect an estimated $335 million additional tax revenue annually beginning tomorrow under the provisions of last year’s transportation compromise. The new taxes affect car rentals, hotel stays, car repairs, and real estate transfers and impose new fees on vehicle licensing and registrations. Should everything work according to plan, this money will supposedly […]

Jim Webb Upsets Everyone
21 December 2007 | Illegal Aliens, US Senate | 27 Comments
Senator Jim Webb has managed to “triangulate” himself into the one policy position on the illegal alien issue that will ensure he enrages the most people as possible, as the Washington Times reports. While acknowledging that state and local government has a role to play in the problem, which is reasonable, the purpose for doing […]

Bob Marshall on WTOP
17 December 2007 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 96 Comments
Delegate Bob Marshall appeared on the first segment of the Mark Plotkin show on WTOP and just fell short of announcing that he would run for the Republican nomination for United States Senate. It’s an interesting listen, even if Dick Saslaw called in, which I found distracting.
Anyone who underestimates Bob Marshall clearly does so at […]
Bob Marshall Is In
1 December 2007 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 29 Comments
I had a chance to speak with Delegate Bob Marshall tonight, and he is joining the race for the Republican nomination for United States Senator, joining candidates Chris Saxman (who will also announce tomorrow) and Jim Gilmore. Bob Marshall’s candidacy is a true test of whether social conservatives can once again re-establish themselves as a […]
Bob Marshall For Senate?
22 November 2007 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 24 Comments
According to the Washington Post, Bob Marshall is considering joining the field of candidates for the Republican nomination or U.S. Senate, along with Jim Gilmore and Chris Saxman. This would be a very interesting three-way race.
Jim Gilmore comes into this race after a pretty disheartening run for the Republican nomination for President, where he […]

Davis Says No, Thanks
23 October 2007 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 22 Comments
As I told readers in the intel report yesterday, Tom Davis is expected to decline a run for United States Senate. This is probably a good move, since his efforts in the 11th Congressional District are invaluable and he’s done a good job of representing his district in Congress. If he vacated his seat in […]
Let’s Kill The “DREAM Act”
19 September 2007 | Illegal Aliens, US Senate | 122 Comments
The Senate is working on it’s “DREAM Act” amnesty plan today, and it’s important to keep the heat on. Seventeen Senators have gone on record so far as opposing this misguided idea, but that’s not going to be nearly enough to stop this outrage. Apparently the last time we melted the Senate’s switchboard, […]

Senate Tries Another Amnesty Proposal
16 September 2007 | Illegal Aliens, US Senate | 58 Comments
The Senate is at it again, with a new amnesty proposal that they’re trying to sneak in under the radar called the “Dream Act.” It’s time to burn up a switchboard over at the Senate, all over again. I guess they didn’t get the message last time around. From NumbersUSA:
