Local Mosque Hosts Iranian Elections

Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what happens inside in the area’s houses of worship. The faithful does what it wants to do, and we don’t concern ourselves with it. That’s how it should be, up until we start seeing these facilities used by agents of hostile foreign regimes. If a local house of worship wants to have a bunch of people parade around in military uniforms and glorify military firearms as part of their religious practices, that’s not going to alarm people too much as long as they’re not actually shooting at people. When agents of the Iranian government take over a Mosque in Manassas right down the street from this militaristic church in order to conduct an election for the Iranian regime, that probably is worthy of a bit more concern.

E. W. Jackson visited Old Town Manassas this week and spoke to volunteers and activists about his campaign and his vision for Virginia. This is the guy that some liberals are trying to characterize as some sort of monster, but the truth is quite obviously rather different. Jackson is one of the most genuine and humble, yet inspirational people you will ever meet in Virginia politics.

The defeat of House Transportation Committee Chairman Joe May by Dave Larock in the 33rd District is being touted by some as an unprecedented revolt by the grassroots against Republican tax-hikers. It is not. Back in 2003, then-House Transportation Committee Chairman Jack Rollison was defeated in a primary by Jeff Frederick after Rollison played the point man for a referendum on a sales tax increase that was supposed to fund transportation improvements. This isn’t new. This is what almost always happens.

Southside Is Worth Caring About

During the last legislative session of the General Assembly we heard a lot about Uranium mining. One side was talking about jobs in southside Virginia, the other talking about how mining could be dangerous, and most of here in Northern Virginia were mostly wondering why we were getting calls and mail pieces about the issue. We’re about 200 miles away from Pittsylvania County. Why would anyone be talking to us about this? Why would someone in Manassas even care about what’s happening in a place like Chatham?

With porn shop owner Paige Critchley announcing her support for the Joe May campaign in a comment here on BVBL, we thought it might be a nice gesture to offer the May campaign some graphic design help with their next mail piece which really ought to feature this surprise development. It’s not every day that a Republican House of Delegates campaign gets endorsed by someone who runs a porn shop next to an Elementary School in West Virginia.

Melissa Peacor Jumps The Shark

The Sheriff was the first to notice that our County Executive took it upon herself to decide that not only did the county needed a new logo, but that she was going to be the one who would determine what it would look like. As a result, we end up with this kind of meaningless, utter tripe that we’re going to spend all sorts of taxpayer money rebranding everything in the county with it. What these two nondescript squares are supposed to mean or what significance they may hold for the county is anyone’s guess, and it certainly will keep people guessing for a long time, should this actually come to pass. What is certain though is that government bureaucrats are utterly unqualified for any task involving graphic design and marketing much moreso than they are unqualified to determine a budget that might actually reflect the anticipated spending levels of a government agency.

Because I’m a concerned citizen who very much wants to support the success of our county government, I thought I’d take a moment to craft an alternative design for the county’s apparently desperately-needed rebranding effort that I would offer to Prince William County free of charge. My design criteria are that the rebranding accurately reflect what the county is, utilize a widely recognized symbol that would easily be associated with county government, and strongly communicate the sense of awe and magnificence that residents, visitors and business partners should have when they think of Prince William County government.

Dear readers, may I present you with my version of the County’s logo, which I call “Queen Melissa The Merciful.”

Fact Checking The May-LaRock Race

Recently that testiness got somewhat bizarre as the campaigns traded charges and counter-charges that are hard for the average voter to make much sense of, so we’re going to dig through them for you.

Rezoning For Allah Not A Good Idea

Manassas has a tough fiscal problem to solve. Commercial development in the city has been stagnant at best, and the city wants to invest in all sorts of new infrastructure projects. In a “have your cake and eat it too” moment it decided the way to address this was to raise property taxes by an eye-popping amount while doing nothing to address commercial and industrial development. To make this fiscal equation even a little bit harder, the Manassas Muslim Association has asked the council to rezone one of the last parcels of undeveloped commercially zoned land to allow them to build a mosque on it, which would remove it from the tax rolls.

YouTube Covers For Democratic Super PAC

Yesterday morning I submitted a copyright infringement complain to YouTube complaining that the Super PAC “American Bridge 21st Century” had stolen clips from two of my productions. Twenty four hours later, which is quite a bit more of a delay than I had ever encountered before, the infringing video has been re-edited to remove my content — but the video mysteriously retains the same URL. The ability to replace a video file has never been a feature of YouTube, yet at least in this one case a well-heeled Democratic Super PAC has managed to get access to features that the rest of us aren’t allowed to even know about, all in order to cover up unlawful behavior by liberals. Corey Stewart Calls His Constituents “Cowards”

“Everyone who is opposed to the [Bi-County Parkway] and not offering an alternative is a coward.” — Corey Stewart.

The question here is what the alternative is supposed to accomplish. If the purpose is to provide profit opportunities for the developers that contribute to Corey Stewart’s election campaigns, I suppose we could pay them with public funds to bulldoze residential blight in Woodbridge. If the point is to give Governor McDonnell and Sean Connaughton a public memorial for their service to the county, we could erect a massive statute of a dollar sign in front of the McCoart building.

If the purpose is to actually solve some sort of transportation issue, well, doing nothing is a perfectly good alternative and one that is arguably quite superior.

The left obviously still can’t figure out what to do when confronted by a conservative that doesn’t fit their racial stereotypes, especially when that conservative is a Republican nominee for state-wide office. Their first shot across the bow is to take one of E. W. Jackson’s most powerful assaults on the culture of death that the Democratic Party embraces and instead of responding to it in any substantial way, they simply try to mock it. Stay glued to a seat talking to people who don’t know what’s happening and it can seem like an ordeal. Be a real political junkie and really pay attention, and there’s plenty to amuse yourself with.

My Convention Picks: Lingamfelter And Bell

Delegates going to the Republican Convention in Richmond this weekend are still reeling under all the direct mail, phone calls and email messages the seven Lieutenant Governor and two Attorney General campaigns have been putting out in earnest over the past couple of weeks and having a hard time sorting it all that information out. To make matters even more complicated, a lot of folks are going to see their preferred candidates get knocked out during the process so it’s not just a matter of settling on one candidate and figuring the exercise is over. It’s quite likely that as the process evolves a lot of people are going to be scrambling to figure out how best to vote among candidates they might not know very well at all.

With hopes this will help some of you, here’s my take on the candidates and who I’m going to be supporting. (more…)

How Deep The Rabbit Hole Goes

Just in case anyone felt there weren’t enough depressing stories out there about how local governments in the area are being wasteful with our tax dollars comes this morning’s PWC Education Reform bombshell about how Prince William County Schools is secretly planning to build not one, but six pools in local high schools. At the same time our county high schools schools are being badly ranked, our class sizes have grown to be the largest in the area, and academic performance isn’t at all where it should be bureaucrats and the county’s leadership want to blow money on building pools in all the new schools.
