Mark Sell Wins LCRC Chairman Race

Congratulations to Mark Sell for pulling out a victory in today’s election for LCRC Chairman. Both he and Candace Strother were excellent candidates for this position, and it’s a really healthy thing to see such great members of the committee step up for consideration by Loudoun Republicans for this job. Now comes the hard work of healing divisions within the committee and charting a course forward for future Republican wins in Loudoun. Mark is definitely up to the job, and hopefully he’ll get the full support of the LCRC as he rolls up his sleeves to this task.

I’d noticed a pretty solid correlation between Sell lapel stickers and those for Howie Lind at recent LCRC meetings. With Sell pulling out a win here, I’ll bet Howie Lind is feeling pretty good about his chances at the 10th District Convention. If Dave Schmidt isn’t running that strong in Loudoun, he’s not running strong anywhere right now.

Connolly Finally Blinks

Keith Fimian and RPV kept up a steady barrage of criticism against Gerry Connolly for accepting money from the scandal-ridden Charlie Rangel, forcing Connolly to cast off $9,000 from his campaign fund lest his close association with Rangel become a campaign issue. Once again, Connolly is reacting to Keith Fimian who has been on his case continuously, leveling an unrelenting barrage of criticism against Connolly’s behavior and his voting record.

Good work, Keith. Keep it up!

Ronald Reagan Lecture Series

SB 462 Violates Law, Harms Witness Program

A proposal to shield illegal aliens in some circumstances from being questioned by law enforcement is under consideration by the House Courts of Justice Committee, and recently the Immigration Reform Law Institute was asked by Save The Old Dominion to evaluate the legality of this proposal after consulting with some members of the House of Delegates. As I suspected, SB 462 does violate federal law, but these attorneys also found that in addition the legislation undermines a federal program designed to protect witnesses in criminal investigations. It is incredibly unfortunate that the Senate was so incredibly lazy in vetting this bill, but perhaps the House will demonstrate a higher level of legislative professionalism and table this bill before a mistake is enshrined into Virginia law. Senator Chuck Colgan has done a great job so far this session of channeling Louis XIV. When VDOT complained about the costs of HB 652, a bill designed to ensure that those who have their property seized under eminent domain are properly compensated, Colgan voted to kill the bill, ensuring that the demonstrated practice of deliberately under-compensating property owners would continue indefinitely. When several localities secretly complained about HB 737, which would require them to ensure that they only hire legal workers and not illegal aliens armed with falsified identification documents, Colgan so far has assented in letting that bill quietly die in the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee. Both of these bills would have quite demonstrably benefited citizens of Virginia, but Chuck Colgan as the self-styled personal embodiment of the state in the Senate throws them under the bus. I’m backed up terribly with time really tight deadlines, and have had no chance to post. Note the special election today in Fairfax, that SB 462’s limited amnesty for illegal aliens seems poised to shoot through the House of Delegates since nobody has seemed to notice this PC-fest has major problems, and HB 737’s jobs for legal American workers is on the way to being killed in the Senate because Fairfax and a few other localities can’t seem to function without their illegal alien employees.

Most recent funny: Frank Wolf’s putative primary challenger Jim Trautz is putting up panicky posts on resistnet.com (of all places) begging for people to help him get enough petition signatures to qualify for the primary. Hysterical.

There’s plenty more going on, so don’t hesitate to bring each other up to speed while I’m head’s down for a day or so.

Can you believe this crap? Do Democrats really think that they’re going to win elections by saying that Rush Limbaugh is going to eat their children? I’d characterize this over-the-top hyperbole as utter desperation, if only I could make any sense out of it. Seeing that these rantings are typically reserved for the mentally disturbed, it’s difficult to determine whether the Filler-Corn campaign is collectively nuts or just so focused on Rush Limbaugh that they’ve spent way too much time banging their heads into walls.

Liberalism is a mental disorder, folks. Remember you saw the evidence here.

Kerry Bolognese should do pretty darned good if this is what Democrats are resorting to.

I find it particularly appalling when government agencies lobby our elected officials to raise our taxes. When they use taxpayer resources to contact residents to do their lobbying for them it is even more enraging. Is this why we paid for IT services for the county schools, just to have them used to promote a political agenda that is arguably contrary to the interests of taxpayers? Is it appropriate for a school system facing budget challenges to spend taxpayer dollars on lobbying?

This is a big disappointment. I could understand Governor McDonnell keeping mum about the Arizona senate race, but I can’t understand Bob McDonnell endorsing for re-election that tremendous and consistent disappointment to conservatives called John McCain.

I was very surprised to learn that Steve Thomas, a fixture in the Manassas City Republican Committee has just announced his candidacy for Chairman. Steve has served as the Operations Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Manassas City Republican Committee, as well as serving as the Operations Chairman for Help Save Manassas. A former Marine officer and Marine Drill Instructor, Steve brings a unique military operational insight to political campaigns and a fierce determination that is an asset to any local unit he serves. 10th CD Chairman Videos

I imagine there aren’t a whole lot of people who have had the chance to see both candidates for 10th Congressional District Chairman. Now that Dave Schmidt has a video up on his website, readers have an opportunity to get to know both of them a little bit. This is the first time I’ve seen all the candidates for a congressional district chairmanship in Virginia take full advantage of new media and it bodes really well for the future of the 10th District that they’re both doing so. No matter who wins this race, the 10th District is going to seek out every possible opportunity to get its message out going forward using every means available, and in no way will the opposition be allowed to dominate this important medium. Manassas News & Messenger opinion writer Michael Shannon offered us a real treat in his column today entitled “The 2010 Mexican Roundup“, which is published the day after a former illegal alien tries to take WMAL Host Chris Plante to task for not being sufficiently ‘enlightened’ about the unlawful presence of illegal aliens. While “Prince William County’s Jefe de la Policia Charlie Deane” can’t figure out whether enforcing the law is a good thing or not, “Frank from Manassas” who describes himself as formerly being an illegal alien demonstrates precisely why enforcing the law might be a wise move. It would at the very least keep utter knucleheads like “Frank” from polluting our civic discussions with foreign leftist rubbish, crowding out people who actually demonstrate an interest in becoming Americans participate in our democracy. Mason Conservative notes the differing choices Keith Fimian and Pat Herrity made in deciding a venue for their campaign kickoff events, and it kind of makes you wonder what’s up with the Herrity campaign. After Herrity withdrew from the Commonwealth Transportation Board after missing a huge chunk of their meetings, you have to wonder if Herrity wants to lose this race.

Do they not understand the mood of the country and of Republicans? I’ve been to the Springfield Country Club before (for John Frey), and its nice don’t get me wrong. But in challenging the Democrats on out-of-control spending, do we really want a potential candidate kicking things off at a country club?

Seriously. Is there a Connolly mole in the Herrity campaign staff?

Chuck Colgan Hints At Retirement

Once again speculation runs rampant about whether Senator Chuck Colgan will seek re-election. This familiar discussion is refueled by comments reported in the Virginian-Pilot and replayed at Virginia Virtucon that disclose health concerns may force Senator Colgan to retire from public service. This is not at all the retirement scenario Prince William County Republicans were hoping for, but the prospect of an open seat in the 29th Senate District immediately following redistricting is certainly enticing.
