S 4057 Rolling Forward

By Greg L | 17 November 2006 | US Senate | 5 Comments

As reported by our friends over at SpankThatDonkey, Senator Allen has introduced a bill which would allow gunowners to carry their firearms in National Parks just as they now can in National Forests and State parks. Today I’ve learned that S 4057 has been introduced as promised and is now pending in the Energy And Natural Resources Committee which is chaired by Pete Domenici. This bill needs to get to a floor vote as soon as possible so it’ll have a chance of getting completed in this session.

If this becomes law, it will end the long held practice of the National Park Service of unreasonably infringing on the rights of citizens to protect themselves from dangerous predators within National Parks, including the two legged kind which has been known to establish and defend marijuana plantations in the past. While it is acceptable, subject to the provisions of state law to carry a defensive firearm in a state park or a National Forest, the minute you cross into a National Forest with a firearm you are committing a felony. Senator Allen is working hard to restore important liberties to the American people from whom they have been wrongly and unconstitutionally stolen from, and is to be commended for fighting for us right up until the end of his Senate term.

We appreciate the hard work, Senator Allen.

I sure hope this bill makes it way to the President. I can take my gun into a National Forest, but not into the Manassas “Battlefield” Park. Go figure.

Don’t jump to any conclusions about Allen or this bill. While it is a good bill, if the Republican leadership don’t make a tremendous effort to act on, it is DOA and then Allen can tell everyone he did what he could, and nothing happens. Anyone can introduce a bill. Thousands get introduced every year. Getting action on them is a different thing altogether. Don’t get sucked in by the window dressing. Demand action.

Kevin is Right! The guy to lean on is Frist. He wants to be president. His political advisor, Chip Saltsman, said he will announce next year. We need to make him choose. Either he can use his vast powers as the Senate Majority Leader and attach Allen’s Park Ban Repeal to Last Minute, Must Pass legislaton OR he can become one more example of a do-nothing Republican.

Allen GET’S NO CREDIT unless there is a recored vote on the Senate Floor. He could make it happen by himself — if he wanted to

Thanks for the link BVBL… Allen should have done this before the election though…

I am not saying too little to late, but he let a ton of 2A supporters slip away from him and either stay home out of boredom or even cross over to Webb.

Should he have this bill passed and sent to the Pres to sign, it would have forced the MSM to talk about, and in turn inform Liberals of Webb’s true position on guns… Look at his Web Page it didn’t even broach the subject…

Guns and Abortion are litmus tests for Conservatives and Liberals alike… It can be a base killer….

My only solace is that now, the Democrats have elected their own John McCain in Jim Webb…. Kinda warms my heart :-)
